Located in the Art Series Chen Hotel, Zero Mode is a chic, modern space that is serving amazing food and drinks with some Asian twists. It’s quite a large space, separated into two different zones. We chose to sit at the back of the restaurant overlooking the street, with a cool neon sign above us. The seating was comfortable and I love the modern lighting and pastel tones. The staff at Zero Mode are very attentive and welcoming, and we chose some amazing cocktails to start. Galaxy Mode and Passion Mode were flavoured beautifully and were very eye catching, and were an amazing way to start our dinner. We chose a few starters to sample a wider range of the fabulous menu. The grilled prawns were huge, butterflied and topped with a delicious, spicy sauce. Just the sort of dish that has you licking your fingers afterwards. The kingfish sashimi was divine, with it’s light as air wafers, and a tangy dressing that cut through the fish beautifully. It was topped with some amazing textural elements, and really was a divine dish.We had a dish from the specials menu, that consisted of roasted eggplant topped with grilled vegetables and mini rotis and flavoured salts on the side. This was an awesome vegetarian dish, full of flavour, and the spicy salts were a great contrast to the vegetables. We couldn’t resist the Karaage chicken, and it came plated with a super spicy peanut sauce, and a heap of fairy floss. Who can resist crispy fried chicken, especially when it comes with such fun sides? For our main we had rockling served with mushrooms and a creamy curry sauce, and this dish was perfectly balanced in terms of flavour and texture. The seasoning was top notch, and the sauce was a flavour bomb. A side of rice was great for soaking up the delicious sauce.Zero Mode stocks desserts from Bibelot, so we couldn’t resist a sublime pastry for dessert. Our sweet little love heart was a dream with it’s rhubarb, chocolate mousse and biscuit base. A lovely way to end a gorgeous dinner. This fantastic restaurant is also a cafe by day, with another epic and fun menu for local brunchers. Our dinner was impeccable, with amazing, friendly service; and delicious, fresh food that is just bursting with Asian flavours. Combine that with gorgeous cocktails and a cool venue, Zero Mode really is a fabulous destination for a night out. Box Hill residents and hotel patrons are so fortunate to have this amazing venue on their doorstep, and we can’t wait to return for brunch, and maybe another delicious cocktail or two.

Zero mode should be called god mode because the food tasted like it came from heaven! It was so creative, gorgeously presented and tasty on so many levels! The coffee first of all was perfect – smooth and creamy. The sweet potato chips – seasoned perfectly with flakes of sea salt and a spicy aioli that was rich and creamy! The green Latifa was a healthy bowl of grains, greens, pumpkin purée & a perfectly poached egg. I loved how many different elements there were and how good everything tasted! The open sushi with salmon, avocado and ginger was something else! I’ve never had something so crunchy and satisfying in life! The Salmon was seared perfectly and melted in the mouth and had the perfect ratio of ginger. This place was on point on so many levels. The decor and customer service was on point. I am dreaming of going back already! It was so good and I can’t recommend it enough!
