Warm and relaxing usually until they get it wrong! A Hot Chocolate Showing On The menu as $4.20 in a mug was brought not hot and too rich in a small cup. When I spoke up, the Owner was evasive and rude. The guy behaved like a Thug. Criminal.

This establishment has been here for a very long time in the nice of part of Church Street and conveniently located next to the Dendy Theatre. This restaurant has undergone a complete makeover in the last couple of years, even so, this doesn’t make up for the food and service which is under par, to say the least.

It’s a large venue with seating inside and out and a cabinet in the middle showing desserts, cakes and biscuits. I’ve been coming here with my family for years, mainly because it’s open very late which is convenient for us ‘night owls’. The menu is enormous (maybe that’s half the problem), for entre we started with spring rolls, the bruschetta (without feta) and garlic bread.

The spring rolls were hot crunchy and came with a nice plum dipping sauce. Quite a hearty serve for an entre. The bruschetta was also quite tasty and served on Turkish bread with balsamic, onion and basil. Garlic bread was served as a bagel – this was a bit burnt and a bit dry.

The dishes ranged from light meals like focaccias and bagels right through to bigger meals like pasta, risotto, pizza, seafood and meat. Some of the light meals have a time restriction on them.

We ordered the Bonanza Beef which comes under ‘mouth-watering munchings’ – can’t say that it was particularly mouth-watering, just nothing special. Also ordered, the Baby Veal Schnitzel even though it was panko crumbed, it was not crunchy and was just lacklustre and pale. Also thrown on the plate was some soft chips and salad that looked and tasted a bit old.

We also ordered a medium-rare steak which came well done and inedible for any of us. Also had the lamb shanks which were pricey and instead of falling off the bone as you’d expect, it was tough and dry.

SERVICE WAS ABSOLUTELY APPALLING. Did the waiters even want to be there? I had to ask for dessert. The macaroons were tasty but way overpriced. Coffee wasn’t great either.

Dendy Deli needs to shrink their menu, shrink the size of the place and get a new chef and staff.
