I go to Poached for the french toast. They do it gluten free, its super tasty and cheap. Don’t go here looking for anything too fancy – the menu is old school standard but the portion sizes are large and the pricing is very reasonable. The atmosphere is relaxed but again nothing too special and the service is fast and friendly. It is cash only so avoid if you’ve only got card.

Well we are foodies and own a cafe ourselves but this place isn’t good and the reviews really don’t match what we saw yesterday.
we had 2 breakfasts while these were a good size the cooked cut mushrooms had mould on them, but i think the worst was the Asian lady did not wash her hands while producing cabinet food she put her hands in everything and anything wiped them on her apron and continued to collect money and give change with out washing her hands it was totally gross.
She took pastries out of the display cabinet with her hands it was out of control
this place is so dirty the toilet had 1 foot of gross dirty water marks up the wall, paper all over the floor in the kitchen and dirty as.
The only good thing i saw yesterday was the amazing young girl who was so very nice from the moment we walked in, if she was near our cafe i would employ her in a second.

Poached was where I had my first meal in Melbourne, and I was all perked up by the cosiness of the cafe and the daintiness of its food!

Food consumed: Vegetarian breakfast with poached eggs, mushrooms, hash brown, avocado, sauted spinach, grilled tomatoes and grilled haloumi

Huge serving sizes, yummy and such affordable food. Coffee was yummy also! Not the trendiest place in Melbourne but quality, classic breakfasts, including HUGE big breakfasts and big omelettes! A giant omelette with chorizo, tomato, halloumi and rocket only $14! Will definitely be back.

Food was bland and boring. My partner had the omelette which was cooked with nothing but egg, I had the poached eggs with feta, rocket and sumac and lemon dressing. There was almost no feta on my dish at all and no dressing that i could taste other than oil.

    Coffee was good though.

Very average. Service is ok. Food is ok. Atmosphere is ok. Not much else to say really. If everything else in the area is too busy you can usually get a table here.

Had to log in and add my comments to those of Surban Uoon, below. I used to work here too. The bullying was shocking. If you sit on the first table in the courtyard, you’ll probably overhear it (in the kitchen).

They also underpaid their staff, paid off the books (hence no WorkCover), and possibly misreported business income (hence why it’s a cash-only business).

    Take your money elsewhere.
