Just an OK bar. Service was somewhat icy from the woman behind the bar. Not a trace of warmth on offer, always an unusual thing in my view from anyone in hospitality. How much does a smile take or even a pleasant comment. Such is life. I liked the funky jazzy music playing. The drinks list is limited and unlike Atticus Finch across the road theres nothing of particular interest on it. While AF has gone for unusual wines, the Alderman has gone for fairly standard fare. I liked the space itself but otherwise its a pretty generic place. Id need a good reason to revisit.
We had drinks here with friends after a lovely dinner up the road. Drinks were on par with other bars in the area. It was busy to some of us sat at the bar while others stood. The vibe was great and we will definitely visit again.
Love the Alderman. Local bar for me, great to pop in for a quiet drink in subdued and cosy surroundings. Great little beer garden out the back with a lovely ambience created by the multicoloured lights. Dart board too which is fun.
Have been hanging around Brunswick Lygon strip a bit of late. We’ve been hitting up many of the establishments, be it food, drink or both.
The Alderman has become one of our staples, being the late-night go to for a nightcap. That or Eydies, depending on the lateness of the hour.
It’s a welcoming place with a relaxed vibe, almost feels like being at a friend’s place having a drink in their lounge. We normally stake out a seat in the garden out back on those warmer, balmier evenings.
A round of cocktails for the four of us cost a little more than a pineapple. So can happily report The Alderman is a great place for a few, very reasonably priced drinks.
Cozy and classy bar with a welcoming atmosphere. Snug booths or alcoves with a window view, or an outdoor garden, both settings are lovely for a wind down drink. The staff were so friendly and welcoming; I’m eager to return.
A perfect mix of wine, a warm open fire and a selection board games makes this the place to wile away the Melbourne winter blues during the evenings. The dimly lit interior pairs nice with a red wine. Protip: The Alderman’s mulled wine is a must and is usually available during the cooler seasons.

A nice Autumn afternoon tipple. Spontaneously walking by and called in for a couple of drinks this afternoon. A couple of nice Japanese whiskey’s tried by my partner in crime and a very nice Teeling whiskey heralding from Dublin I enjoyed myself. Its been a while since visiting but the good feel still remains. Sitting at the awesome long old style bar chatting to our lovely hostess whilst also enjoying the gentle afternoon sun drifting through the windows in to the front bar was perfect. Always nice to do some street watching as you catch up with an old friend. Courtyard out rear and some chairs on the sidewalk to enjoy more of the evening sun. Wholey satisfying.
