Superb food. Michelan star class food … should have 2 chefs hats. Eaten at many of the world’s top restaurants and this cooking is at that level, just without all the stuff and fuss and price.
This is a rare find in Melbourne. Very authentic French cuisine with passionate proprietors who put a lot of effort in to presenting classic dishes.
The Charcuterie Plate is absolutely awesome and especially so that all of it is made in house.
We were pleased with all the dishes ordered and the recommended specials were exactly as they should be – special.
Toulouse pork sausages (made on premises) were beautifully cooked, flavorsome and presented with a bed of capsicum / tomato / onion based accompaniment which was absolutely delicious.
The beef rib was packed full of richness and was superbly reduced to a very tasty and near scrape off the bone magnificence.
A stand out dish however was the duck. Whilst perhaps not the biggest serve one would expect it certainly did not lack on overall satisfaction.
The wine selection is somewhat constrained and a bit odd however the Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot were all good if not a bit on the pricier side.
Looking forward to next visit.
Been there several times. Always so impressed with service and food. We took a friend as a special thankyou last night and had the usual fabulous 3 courses. Took home bread and lemon tart. It was fast becoming our must do eatery.UNTILL a few hours later severe vomiting by my partner who ate the beef ribs. the rest of us ate different things- all good. He only vomited up meat, meat, meat, nothing else. I train Food safety Supervisors for industry so I thought it was important to let them know. Most likely culprit Staphylococcus aureus, which we all have in us, but poor food handling techniques of cooked meats, particularly when also left out of the fridge and vomiting will be the result 1-6 hours later. The man who answered ( I wont mention his name) was off hand, claimed it wasn’t them, no one else had reported issues. (as yesterday was the first day of opening for the week for them, and there where only 2 other guests-neither had the ribs) I found this a wholly inadequate and careless response to a customer who is a local, soon I hoped to be a more regular customer. While I was friendly, understanding, and complimentary on their business, I was left feeling like they ABSOLUTELY DID NOT CARE, about us, the food, and that there would be no record of the complaint andcertainly no follow up. I only hoped for a considered and genuine apology and was left feeling unsafe to return there again. You have now lost me as a customer, lost my other local friends as customers and as a hospitality trainer demonstrated how NOT to handle a customer compliant. Good buy French Milk Bar. You could have kept us, but lazy customer service will be your downfall.
Absolutely charming little place tucked away just off Lygon Street. My friend and I were lucky to get a table for lunch on a Saturday. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is of very high quality.
Warm sourdough baked on site was a highlight. We had a pate and charcuterie platter to share – delicious. Duck-fat fried frites with rosemary were probably the best chips I’ve ever had anywhere, and the creme brulee was also scrumptious.
Very happy to have this lovely bistro in our suburb- we’ll be returning regularly.
Love, love, love this gorgeous little gem. Pleased it is in our local area. We had the most delicious dessert takeaway – raspberry frangipane, the pastry was to die for and the coulis and cream..shame I had to share with husband! The coffee is great and freshly baked bread a treat. Service was friendly and prompt. Can’t wait to visit again!
Lovely ambience, warm and friendly service, amazing food. The duck fat chips were soooo delicious. Really enjoyed our lunch here and will be back again.
The French Milk Bar is a wonderful little French eatery in Brunswick and so glad they decided to open here…. We had lunch today and the charcuterie plate was excellent and I was surprised to see that all the meats were made or cured inhouse, because the quality was really really good…..and the variety offered also showcased the chefs skills here…..
We followed up with the Seafood soup accompanied with rouille and the flavour was excellent and the soup was so silky and the salad de mer which was a delicate poached salmon salad with greens fennel and chevre……If we had room to fit more in the tarts on offer would have been next but we left satisfied and extremely happy…..thank you Anthony and Lisa we will be back again and again….
