The worlds most beautiful woman chose this as the place to celebrate her birthday which is always a momentous occasion. It struck me as an eminently sound choice as the place had always looked interesting. Its a good place overall. The restaurant looks good from outside and feels good inside. Its light inside but not alarmingly so. Its white tiled on one wall which really works. We loved the menu in texta on the tiles. Its cute. Plus, its the sign of a very good menu that we wanted to try every dish off it. Every single one. We wanted everything but of course you can never do that.
I enjoyed the bread and butter. Sounds a little weird but its basically code confirming that the bread was fresh and tasty and the butter was obviously a quality one. The Pinot Blanc we tried was lovely but I actually found the wine list a rather minimalist with limited choice. I had the Marseilles fish soup for entree. The soup was far too hot to have when it arrived at the table. Scalding in fact. I had to cool it for at least 10-12 minutes so I didnt burn my mouth and to release the flavour. When I did get to try it it was good with a lovely deep rich fish flavour. I had the rolled pork barrel on lentils for main. The dish was beautifully presented with the pork wrapped in really nicely cooked and arranged crackling, Again, it was nicely flavoured but was also a little over seasoned with interestingly sweet lentils. The side fries were good, and the salad not bad as well.
Service was ok if a little uneven throughout the night. It wasnt overly busy here but on at least three occasions I had to wave to get service which struck me as curious and unnecessary.
This was a good but slightly frustrating experience. It struck me that the place could easily be 4.5 but instead its 3.5. Its a good place that could be a very good or even an excellent place. Tonight some of the detail just let it down.
Cozy and unpretentious place. Food is delicious (had the slow roast lamb) and the staff very friendly. Also great list of wines. Will definitely come back!
