Ever want a lunch that wasn’t quite the usual brunch menu yet had enough flavour and fancy in it to delight?! Well, these guys created Perfection for me today!

Do yourself a favour and order a Papa Rapa and if you’re health conscious like me – grab it with a side of Avo. YUMMM… #carpentersson

Carpenters Son located in a dead end street just of Sydney road is Brunswick, is a small modest Italian inspired cafe serving hearty food and great coffee in comforting setting.

Carpenters Son caught my eye on a Friday afternoon looking inviting due to the tasteful outdoor seating area shaded by black umbrellas. Upon entering we where greeted by a bold and proud barista who gestured for us to sit anywhere we please as the cafe was empty. The interior is very small with booth seating, and small tables for two with most of the, seating occupy the bar section and stools for the limited window seating. The back wall reveals an elaborative bar next took an old school gelato stand that is mobile and placed out the front in warmer weather.

We took a spot in the comfortable large booth as the waited presented us with the minimalistic yet tasty menu. A few moments later we where keen to order firstly opting for a long black along with the energy boost smoothie. Our tummies where rumbling so food was a must ordering the organic granola and the house made lasagna ragu. One cannot go to an Italian themed cafe and not order lasagna if its on the menu so expectations where high.

The energy smoothie arrived first being made up of an espresso shot, raw cacao, vegan protein powder, banana, almond & coconut milk with rice malt syrup was pretty filling and refreshing. The added protein and banana was very satiating and the bitter cacao was balanced well with the sweetness of the rice malt syrup. The smoothie was thick and creamy but sadly the espresso shot could hardly be tasted. The long black arrived after our meals which I though was strange but nonetheless it was worth the wait. The brew was superb. It was thick and bold exactly like a great Italian brew should be with a marvellous palatable acidic after taste.

The food arrived simultaneously looking outstanding, plated with respect and care showcasing the fresh ingredients. The house made organic granola with fresh fruit, yoghurt and my choice of almond milk was perfect. The tangy thick dollop of natural yoghurt drizzled with honey added just the right amount of sweetness. The fresh berries where fragrant and the sticky clusters of darkly roasted oats, pecans, walnuts and seeds mixed in with chewy dried cranberries and raw pistachios was a flavour explosion. Once combined with the almond milk this crafted for a filling and mighty tasty bowl of goodness. The slab of house made lasagne ragu looked indulgent, with its gooey cheese glister and oozy down the sides. The pasta sheets who dense and saturated in the most divine rich tomato ragu sauce. It was a classic Italian lasagne, humble, simple and packed with hearty flavours leaving us full the the gunnels.

Carpenters Son is a great little cafe in Brunswick with a unique appealing Italian twist. The coffee is one of the best in the area and the menu is cheap and very filling. I hope they add more items to there small, yet delicious menu but there coffee alone is enough to bring customers back .
