All the right elements but lacking something to pull them all together.

From the outside this cafe doesn’t look that big but when you enter its spacious with an interior which is able to feel comfortable and industrial at the same time.

As I sat down the music playing took me back to the 80s and I was feeling quite relaxed as I waited for my companion to arrive. But… after about 5 minutes the door had opened dozens of times .. and took about 20 seconds to close … each time bringing an icy blast with it. This became very annoying very quickly!

Luckily the place was still relatively empty so I was able to find another spot outside of the wind tunnel.

The menu offers a different range of food to the usual with a few daily specials.

My companion had the Breakfast Vegan Salad which they found to be very tasty and with a smooth tangy macadamia and lime dressing which brought the dish together.

I had the corn crumpets with smoked paprika butter, tomato jam and friend egg. The meal was too heavily weighted towards the corn .. lots of corn kernals and corn crumpet (which was more like cross between a corn scone and a corn muffin). There was some sort of puree on the plate but I am not sure what it was and the tomato jam was quite bland and did nothing to balance the strong corn flavour. It wasn’t unpleasant but is not something I’d choose again.

The coffee was smooth and well made and my companions chi late was smooth and sweet.

The service was adequate but didn’t feel any more than routine.

This cafe has all the elements that should make a really good cafe but there is something lacking to bring it all together.

3.0* – food .. a menu offering a range of different choices but not much that tempted me to return.

3.0* – service – adequate but nothing special.

1.5* – Ambience – plenty of space between the tables, great music and comfortable seating but the draft from the door is very annoying.

Staff were very friendly and service was quick. We came shortly after the Sunday brunch rush so we we’re seated quickly.
Coffee was nice and strong but needed to be hotter. We both had the baked eggs, eggs were overcooked and so not runny, but the sauce was nice and was very hot foe a cold winters day.
