Sure, it’s not a Parisian cafe, but it’s awesome for what it is.
Friendly folk too
This is definitely my local Banh Mi fix in Brunswick. I could eat these every day. Good staff and really the only good Banh Mi you can get in Sydney Rd.
Best and as far as I know the only place to get a Bnh m on Sydney Road..
My got to place when I forget to bring lunch to work as you can get a feed for under $7.
Friendly welcoming staff, fresh ingredients and that lovely smell and taste of freshly baked bread.
Traditional Vietnamese Pork Salad Roll , with a little chilli , delicious, perfect healthy and quick takeaway lunch. Staff are friendly and fast service
My go-to banh mi place in Melbourne (caveat: I haven’t been to Nhu Lan yet). The baguette is always crispy, the carrot is well pickled and they have a good pat and mayonnaise, which is crucial to a good banh mi!
I tend to go a few times a week and always get the roast pork salad roll when available. Can’t beat this place for value. Their doughnuts are pretty amazing too.
A bit disapointed. It had all the hallmarks of a traditional Vietnamese Banh Mi Thit bakery. The crack if dawn opening hours, unmaintained street signs, the too many appliances plugged into a few powerboards plugged into the 1 power outlet, the friendly asian lady behind the counter and the sweet sweet aroma of fresh bread that hits u when u walk in the door. It looked promising.
1st bite, and WOW!! The bread was very crunchy on the outside, light, fluffy, and soft on the inside, bread crumbs all over the front of my shirt – exactly how it should be. 10 out of 10.
But, it was downhill from there. The filling has been obviously adapted for the western taste and as a result it has lost a bit if its identity.
I didnt mind the lettuce, it gave it a certain freshness, and crunch to each bite but it just felt wrong.
The lack of roast pork to the menu was a big let down.
The pickled carrot wasnt pickled enough to give the acidity it needed.
The pork loaf was average at best and way too salty.
Traditional butter and pate was underwhelming and didnt give it the rich flavour punch u expect when u eat something u know u shouldnt be.
All in all, the bread saved this experience from being mediocre to being ok.
Would try again, but in no rush.
