Ive been stirring over this review ever since I left Mr. Feed Wednesday after brunch. Every time I step foot into a cafe or restaurant, I want them to wow me. I want the food to be delicious and the service to be on point so I can rave about them in my reviews – because thats easy. It gets hard when I visit places like Mr. Feed. Online they look GREAT, and thats part of the reason I went there, their Instagram pics had me drooling!
In person it was a different story, I ordered the Fritters Stack ($15) which were supposed to be sweet potato, pumpkin and quinoa Fritters however all I could taste were an abundance of pumpkin seeds. It was absolutely flavourless and slightly dry. There was a lovely beetroot relish however the quantity mismatched the amount needed to fix the flavours of this dish.
The most shocking part of this meal were the eggs that stood atop these Fritters, they were meant to be poached and they looked perfect however when you cut into them they were completely boiled throughout. My table had ordered about 4 dishes with poached eggs and every dish was done the same, which leads me to the conclusion that the staff at Mr. Feed have no idea how to poach an egg which is amazing considering how theyve got such an extensive brunch menu and the perfectly poached egg is a brunch staple.
I really wanted for Mr. Feed to redeem themselves, sadly the food was below average, the coffee was average and the service was mediocre at best. Its safe to say I wont be back, and heres to hoping I never have to write another review like this again!
We really enjoyed our brunch at this nice decorated restaurant. We had the Mexican chilli scrambled eggs, fritters stack and their special menu, green smoothie bowl.
All the dishes were really good, the portions are quite big as well, which is perfect for us. The staff were really friendly and welcoming.
The place deserves 5 stars.
> Toasted granola with honey yogurt and seasonal fruit AND Avocado on toast, with pumpkin seeds, beetroot puree, poached eggs + chilli AND Buttermilk pancakes with blueberry compote, lemon curd + pistachio crumble < Mr Feed is a very trendy caf which lies amongst the locals of Brunswick. The staff are lovely and the service is very efficient. There are constantly people in and out of this place for a coffee or breakfast whilst reading the paper. One of my favourite dishes to order at any caf is granola. I always feel energised and full after I demolish an entire bowl. The yogurt was sweet, which showcased the sweetness of the granola even more. I am not a huge fan of pecan nuts, so that addition was not the best for me seeming there were quite a few swimming around. The apple helped make the dish more refreshing and gave the dish a softer crunch. The ratio of granola to yogurt was a little off, however, the apple helped fill this void. The presentation of this dish is beautiful and they have really done a good job with the overall aspects. These pancakes tastes like how mum used to make them. Fluffy and packed with flavour. The syrup was perfect to enhance the sweetness, which also absorbed really nicely into the fluffiness of the pancakes. The lemon curd gave the dish a bit of a kick and added a nice citrus flavour. The bacon on the other hand, I am not a huge fan of this combination. In my opinion, bacon is too salty to be mixed with super sweet pancakes + syrup, so this flavour combination did not work for me, however, I did demolish the pancakes entirely.
Eggs benedict is always a great breakfast option because it is hard to go wrong with the flavours. These eggs were cooked really well and the hollandaise sauce had a nice sweet flavour with a tiny bit of a tang to it. The sauted mushrooms were a great addition and made the dish more substantial and added more flavour to the dish. Overall, I do not have any complaints with this dish and I was very satisfied with the taste.
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here as the vibe was really nice, the service was great, there were no issues with the food, and I had great company to top it off.

Mr Feed is new on the block when it comes to Sydney Road, and it has the feel of a place that’ll soon become an institution. It has that open brick and wooden paneling feeling to it that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in. The menu pays homage to all that frequent breakfasters love about Melbourne, with enough of a twist to keep it different to others. Mexican chilli scramble with a serious helping of chorizo and some sauted mushrooms that I could easily have eaten a bucket of were our dishes of choice for this visit. If there weren’t several more items on the menu that I want to try, I’d happily go back and have the exact same thing again! Great coffee, iced drinks and a vast array of take away items mean you can do a cheeky swing by if you don’t have time to stop.
The owners and staff are nothing short of lovely and are genuinely excited about their food menu and their customers. This is a kinda rare find in a city that’s breakfast venues are so busy it’s often hard to have a conversation past a food order. Definitely one to check out when you’re next in Brunny.
Full (and probably funnier) review is live on the blog now, link in bio… 🙂
Better to eat in other cafes in Sydney road than wasting your money here …Food was bad, toast was not toasted, plates looked dirty, menu is boring
Honestly better cafes to enjoy small axe cafe or even code black.
Whoah. That was seriously good food. Got the avo on toast with eggs, added pumpkin and damn, super good. Beetroot relish was dope and such a nice environment in the shop. Very impressed.
Mr Feed is a newly opened, small modern cafe located on Sydney road Brunswick. The interior reveals a long coffee bar which has access from the street for those quick takeaways, as well as offering bench top seating at communal tables with the rest of the seating being ideal for tables for two.
Since Mr Feed hadnt been open for very long and Im a locally I was keen to pop in and see what they were all about. So on a Friday afternoon we entered the empty looking joint to be greeted by a humble waiter and barista. We took a spot along the wall towards the front of the cafe and where presented with menus to ponder over. The diverse menu features the usual brunch dishes but also has a whole section dedicated to burgers and an assortment of curries which was rather interesting. The waiter returned and took our hot beverage orders of a long black and a chai latte as we still decided what to fulfil our tastebuds with.
Our drinks arrived promptly and we where finally ready to order opting for the toasted granola and the traditional buttermilk pancakes. The long black was rather average being slightly watery and bitter but the chai latte was much better with a lovely creamy texture, with the added bonus of a generous amount of cinnamon on the top.
Our dishes arrived after a fair amount of time which was strange since there was only another party of two in the cafe, but nonetheless the dishes where presented nicely. The buttermilk pancakes with blueberry compote, lemon curd and pistachio crumble where nice and fluffy on the inside but was a fairly tiny stack that still left us wanting more. The lemon curd was certainly not house made but had a great tangy flavour pairing well with the sweet pancakes. The berry compote was just a few frozen blueberries which was a let down overall contributing to a very, very average dish.
Next up was the toasted granola with honey yoghurt, seasons fruit and my choice of soy milk on the side. The dish was plated well with a hefty amount of oaty clusters littered with seeds, nuts and dried fruits. The honey yoghurt was a little to sweet for my liking but had a great texture when folded through the granola. The granola could have been toasted more to balance out the sweetness but it was still nice and chewy, absorbing the soy milk with ease crafting for a delicious light meal.
Mr Feed has potential, as the staff are keen and enthusiastic, delivering dishes from a very untraditional menu. Im sure they will improve in time and there menu will extend once, they get into the groove of the face passed caffeinated Brunswick lifestyle.
