Friend catch up and she picked up this cafe. I have been early so waited for seats. Honestly I have ignored by the cafe staff for a while, even a girl saw me standing at the entrance but not approach to ask if I need a table. In the end I walked inside and asked another girl for a table. It was not a good start. After our order, we waited around 1hr for the food to be ready, which was too long. Just before we wanted to cancel the order, dishes came. The food, while, was nice. The special fake meat dish tasted so yummy. The burger came with a big portion, and the flavour was good. Overall, not a good place to sit for long but if you do not mind being ignored by waitress and waiting for food for ages, come and try the vegen dish.

Rays has gone from great, to average, to amazing, to absolutely terrible.
The food is delicious, the coffee is okay and the service is easily some of the worst ive encountered in Brunswick.
The staff turnover seems to make and break this place.
Cafe Ray has been around for a while- and it has changed. I know menus change and prices increase and indeed Brunswick has changed. But I think I may have had my last burnt coffee (I asked for it hot, but why does the Barista always have to scorch it?) and barely warm mediocre overpriced lunch here. I dont live in this area, but there sure are a lot of better contenders around now.
The vegan French toast with fairy floss and black tahini sauce is probably the best sweet breakfast dish I’ve ever eaten in Melbourne. It’s perfectly balanced, so innovative compared to most sweet cafe breakfast dishes, and best of all, fully plant-based. Add the gingerbread tofu, you won’t regret it.

Located besides the busy Sydney Rd, rays coffee provides a cosy place to stop by and have a cup of coffee. Flat white is above average and I really like it.
Weve just read a few reviews of this place and sure, the staff can come off a bit nonchalant and whatever but YOURE IN BRUNSWICK. If there is Ray of Rays caf they probably give zero sh*ts what you think about their caf. The first time we ventured here over a year ago (visiting from Brisbane) we were a bit put off by the service. But on our second stay in Brunswick after wed got a real feel for the area, we totally get the vibe of Rays. We rocked up for a super late Saturday breakfast and ordered the the Beast of Brunswick with added egg AND haloumi. There is something so glorious about two types of cheese on one burger. We also had the Johnny Hash which was freaking divine. I was a bit worried about the pickled fennel but it was on the side and very small. I wish there was a bit more smashed peas as they were great to cut through the saltiness of the chorizo and potato hash. I loved thefood so much that I went back again next time solo, opting for the Insane Brown Toastie. I love me a good croquet monsieur and this one was goodie. While it was certainly rich the quince aioli balanced it perfectly. Cause youre in Brunswick obviously dishes here are plated with trademark IDGAF hipster love. Coffee was great and service was fast and actually really friendly this time round. Loved the Tarantino tunes too guys well be seeing you again for sure! Sure, Kill Bill’s a violent movie. But it’s a Tarantino movie. You don’t go to see Metallica and ask the f****rs to turn the music down -QT
