Think maybe it was just a bad day when i went as my partner enjoyed the food there awhile back but yeah unfortunately the food seemed as if the chef had skimped on the sauce and seasonings so it was dry. Also the tables were grubby. Great coffe though and cool decor. I feel like that day it was too busy for them to handle and they just kept packing people in
Bet you havent tried this one! Steam Junkies is a little gem with a warehouse hipster vibe tucked behind the streets of Brunswick. With a great selection of fresh juices, spot on coffee (small batch), scrumptious breakfast options and all day burgers and sandwiches, whos in? Its peaceful setting is for those mornings when you cant do too many people, just you and a book or with someone you love.
Steam junkies is located right next to a bike lane, so what a perfect place to stop for a brunch/coffee after some fresh air. I can’t bike to save myself so a run/walk it is. I continue my current poke bowl obsession and this time topped up with some sriracha mayo. Highlights: big on taste and easy on your wallet. Good combo of everything. Lowlights: the ice latte was a little weird, served with too much small pieces of ice.
Steam Junkies is in a great spot; right next door to Anstey Railway Station and the cycle path into the city.
The caf is bright and open with lots of spaces to eat outside.
The service seemed to be a bit slow and chaotic… but once we finally caught their attention and they delivered the correct order… they seemed friendly.
There were lots of good things to choose from the menu. I picked the Potato Hash with poached eggs. The hash itself was good .. lots of golden toasted bits on the edges. The centre however could have done with a few more minutes in the pan.
The poached eggs were ok.
My companion had the Roasted Cauliflower w/ squash hummus. It was apparently very tasty but the presentation and balance of elements could have been better. It seemed to have two huge, very dry slices of bread and not much topping.
The coffee was ok.
Food 2.5* both dishes were tasty but could have been significantly improved with a bit of effort.
Coffee: 2.5*
Service 2.5* ok but it was difficult to attract anyones attention.
Ambience 4.0* a great location with a casual and sunny feel to it.
