Local Italian sweet, their tea cakes is very nice and often runs out quick. Love their berry and apple tea cakes. And their cannoli is another favorite too. I used to buy fresh yeast from them but seemed like they dont sell it anymore. However, you can pick up a ready make pizza dough (uncooked) if you would love to have pizza but lazy to make from scratch!
Not as fancy as its big brother in Reservoir. When I was fossicking for info on this place, I discovered that there’s another Il Pasticcino in Reservoir. It looks much fancier than this one, which is wedged into a hallway that smells of butcher shop meat outside of the Psarkos market. It’s downscale, but I love the bargain box of pastry I got from here. Six day-old things for $5, woo-hoo! The best thing was the peach a type of custard-filled Italian doughnut. I dont tend to like these, but it had tender cake-style pastry and a delicate sweet filling. This shop also makes coffee. Psarkos is a fabulous grocery shop for Greek, Italian and other Mediterranean foods. If it wasn’t so far away from where I live, I’d go there instead of Med Market on Sydney Road in Brunswick. As it is, I’ll be coming back here when I shop at Psarkos to see if there’s any old stuff I can take off their hands.

Cannoli. I was not keen on Pasticcino’s cannoli, and not just because it was a day-old one. They use pastry cream for their filling, and I prefer ricotta. That tastes richer and more satisfying to me. Not that Pasticcino’s was BAD, and because it cost less than $1 I can’t whinge, but if I was going to the bakery and buying fresh, I’d give these a miss in favour of something else.

Sfogliatelle. This would have been better if it was not a day-old. The ricotta filling was vanilla-flavoury, thick and rich. But the pastry was tougher than I prefer, even when I heated it gently in my toaster oven.
