We came here based on high reviews and since it was to celebrate my sons birthday, I thought its a good time to try this place.
First was the actual restaurant. There was no ambiance. It was dark and fairly old. Majority of the tables had reserved signage. I thought great, this is a popular place and itll be a great night. We were given the option of a brighter lit table or near the window, we chose the latter. So, seated near the window we could see outside and it felt like we were in someones house for dinner rather than at a 4.0 rated restaurant. You see houses and people going for a walk outside the window.
Menu was well written. My son and I opted for the chicken breast and my other son chose the porterhouse steak, medium cook. We were served with 2 small bowls of common/to share salad instead of individually serve salad for a party of 4. It wasnt enough, it was really a single serve size. We ordered chips and that came quickly. The waitress sounded excited with what they offer when she comes around. The steak came out cooked as requested but it was nothing special. The chicken was accordingly grain fed and organic and to be honestly it was tasty and well cooked. Too bad I didnt take any photos because the serving was tiny. It literally was just 2 pieces of very thinly sliced char grilled chicken breast on a massive white plate and nothing else. Not even a drizzle of extra sauce for aesthetics. For the size you get and the $40.00 price tag, it was very expensive and definitely not really worth it. I believe you can get more value for your money somewhere else. Someone gave a review here and said they were a regular at Zagars. I dont know how someone can be. The place doesnt actually invite you to come back, it was small and a bit dingy and the servings werent enough to make you full. The $200.00 bill at the end of the night left us with bewilderment and still hungry. Plus, all those Reserved tables were empty when we left at 8:30pm. It was just us. Not going back there again. Ever.
Hands down, simply quality steak! Have not had steak like this anywhere! I can not order steak from anywhere but this place.. in three years since discovering this little hidden gem, every meal has been as good as my first if not better!

Overpriced! These prices were above rockpool at crown casino. Atmosphere is dingy also lack of variety on the menu. $55 for an eye fillet 250grams quality was average. Table bread $7 when normally it’s complimentary. I will continue to go to my local squares loft or mimi’s diner in Camberwell. Furthermore they do not advertise the menu anywhere on the internet.
Since having experienced a steak cooked the way it should be at Zagars I cant bring myself to eat a steak anywhere else. Hands down the best quality meat cooked to perfection every time. A friend brought me here a while back and now this is a weekly tradition for me.
This is one amazing steak place. Quality & tenderness is off the Charts. I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone. Will be back tomorrow for more! The Fillet steak & Scotch Fillet Sausages were amazing
The quality has really dropped off in recent months. Really wish they still had the chocolate moose cake. I believe there was a problem with one the suppliers. Shame.
Lovely location for dinner. Very homely ambience and the owners are really nice. We got the steak which was cooked perfectly, chips were also very tasty.
