Love this place for quick meal. Chicken rice with peanut and chilli sauce is a banger. Jenny and her team are quick, efficient and when not busy great for a laugh. No. 8 all the way.
Not all that authentic at all unfortunately, no pate in the banh mi but the rolls are fresh and not too bad for a western style roll. Ok for a quick fix, but not the real deal!
Place is a gem, quality vier rolls, nice salad and rolls at rock bottom price. No wonder there is a queue down the street, I thought they must have been selling drugs!
It’s not fancy, but it’s very good value for money: $4.20 for a big, filling, tasty chicken roll with satay sauce (and no, it’s not just supermarket-style roast chicken, it’s better and tastier than that). Sure, I’ve had better Vietnamese rolls in Richmond/Footscray/Springvale or the city, but this is Camberwell, so I’m not complaining ! I’m just happy not to have to buy a boring anglo salad roll, or to be ripped off at something twice the price (like everywhere else in this suburb). Sure, the lady owner is a bit of a drill sergeant character, but it’s rather entertaining 😉 If you’d rather have someone to suck up to you with fake friendliness, by all means go around the corner and pay through the nose for it. I’ll be sticking with Jenny’s 🙂
The lady owner, has some attitude problem. The bread roll was mediocre and its pretty much just roasted chicken (which you can probably buy from Woolworth or coles) with some veggies. Not sure what all the fuss is about but Springvale bread rolls are 10 times better. Overrated place and horrible service from the owner. Jenny’s hot bread? More like Jenny’s horrible bread. What a shame. I will never ever back again.
After reading a few reviews about Jenny’s Hot Bread, I decided to finally go and try it out on my way home. Based on the reviews I read, I was expecting something pretty amazing with a lot of flavour. I was a little disappointed, but I think that’s only because I was expecting so much. For $3.90 I do have to say that the chicken salad roll with bbq sauce I had was pretty tasty and extremely good value for money! The chicken was delicious and the bread was really nice (fresh, warm, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside). The salad was pretty nice too but I think I was just expecting the sauce to have a bit more flavour. The place seems very authentic and the lady who served us was lovely. I shared the roll with my daughter and she loved it and wants to go back! I will definitely be back to try another sauce (or maybe ask for more sauce & more chilli) or the fried rice! Definitely really great for a quick take away lunch on a small budget. You can’t sit in there by the way, it’s really just take away. Next time I might grab a roll or the fried rice on a Sunday to walk with around the market!
Update: I tried the roll again with the satay sauce – it was really tasty!!
The best satay Vietnameserolls, between ordering and having your roll in your hand can usually be under 2 minutes. Grab one of these rolls and have a walk around the market on a Sunday is what I look forward to.
