Set in a small leafy plaza just off Mailing Rd, a pleasant little caf with a retro feel to it. It retains the old facade of the original 1930s shop, with period windows and a heavy panelled wooden door. The interior has unpolished boards, high ceilings, grey painted walls, and a very antique light fitting near the entrance. It is cluttered with ornaments and all sorts of ephemera from yesteryear. The tables feature faux marble tops, and a mix of slightly retro 70s styled chairs. Outside in the plaza area there are several tables under shade umbrellas. The service was welcoming and attentive, and on this occasion I simply had an iced chocolate, which was very nice. I took the opportunity to check out the menu, which looked reasonably interesting, and included crepes, toasties breakfast cereals, and a range of hot and cold drinks. I will return to explore their menu offerings on another occasion.

Love the location of this cafe, tucked in the corner with lots of open space out front. Had a fantabulous time yesterday soaking up the sunshine while hanging out with my 2 little lovelies. The staff were pretty friendly, the coffee was pleasant, i had the blackberry & lemon muffin which was crispy on top & fluffy inside, perfect companion for my coffee & board game that they provide for us to play with. Always love strolling down the town of Canterbury, & rest assured we’ll find ourselves back in that corner sipping our coffees away…

Weird atmosphere. You walk into what looks like a trendy, casual cafe and expect to be greeted with a smile, right? Wrong. The pretentious staff did not even acknowledge our presence and we stood there looking like idiots for a good minute or so until we asked for a coffee. The coffee was bitter and no music was playing so we had to sit within centimetres of everyone else in this tiny cafe whilst being subjected to all of their conversations. Not worth it.

Waited at the table for over 10 minutes and no sign of service. No water, no menu. Nothing. Ordered (finally) the quiche and it turns up on a plate without anything; no relish no salad, nothing. I asked for a salad and got delivered a bowl of lettuce. Very limited choice on the menu. Coffee was also very average. I don’t usually take the time to write a review but with such an awful experience, I felt compelled.

This is such a wasted opportunity – have to agree with the other reviewers about bad service on a Saturday afternoon. Isn’t this the peak time ? At 4 pm every unoccupied table outside had dirty plates all over it, we cleared our own table. Went inside and was given a crepe menu by the staff and when we ordered was then told sorry ! We have run out but they were still cooking them outside ?? Hmm. Ordered coffees, muffins, croissants and sausage rolls. All of them were great …. But. We got our coffee and almost finished before we had to go looking inside for our food as it had not come outside. Really, the staff were more interested in taking out rubbish and texting than serving customers, let alone clearing or serving tables. The waitress was plating our microwaved croissant with one hand as she texted on her phone with the other – no joke. Enough said. Spend your money elsewhere – I hope the owners realise what is going on here and fix it.

Poor customer service. We arrived and no one came to our table. Poor coffee- too bad for Padre coffeebeans not used properly. Angry barrista. Will never come back. When you are in Maling Rd, rise to the challenge!
