We came here for lunch on Sunday. This cafe is quite spacious and has a backyard. It has vintage vibe with modern twist. They offer a lot of choices from breakfast, lunch to take away. They also have varieties homemade sweets as well.

We tried 3 dishes and 2 drinks. Our favourite is the Prawn Risotto, they were very generous on the prawns. We also had Vanilla Hotcakes and
Smoke Salmon Rosti, they were good too but we think if there is more ice cream in the hotcakes it would be much better.

The staff is very friendly and attentive

Lovely quaint family-owned restaurant brimming with chatter and the bustling of kitchen commands! Welcomed by friendly staff whowere adorned in adorable Christmas hats and fairy lights, adding perfectly to the atmosphere of festivity just around the corner! The caf’s interior is extremely inviting and vibrant; upon first walking in, there is an extremely appetising selection of focaccias and quiches! The caf is modern and robust, with vibrant paintings adjourning the eater walls and the actual restaurant decked with open windows and outside seats. The warmth of the staff definitely shines through upon being served as customersa great delight and additionally a wonderful reputation to atone to.

Ordered the ice coffee which came out extremely early! Will say that the drink itself was nothing spectacular, however, it came out very quickly! Our actual dishes did take longer to come out than anticipated, but I sure wasn’t disappointed! The presentation of the meals surely was impressive, with vivid colours making it all the more delectable. We settled on ordering the Lean and Green (Vegan) and also the Beef Burger. Although I was initially skeptical of the yuzu sauce that would dress the seasonal sauted greens, I’m so glad I gave it a try! The seasoning of the greens was dead on, with the perfect amount of salt to taste, as well as a tangy yet subtly sweet sauce that truly dies the whole dish together and made it a standout in my eyes. The dollops of pumpkin puree, as well as the slices of radish + beets on the dish also added varying textures that enhanced the eating experience! I was also extremely satisfied with the serving size provided by the meal which did keep me quite full.

The only complaint would be the chargrilled toasted sourdough; as it was sitting beneath the charred greens, the bread easily became soggy. I would suggest a different method of plating in order to retain the crunch of the bread which matches the dish greatly. The Beef Burger was a generous portion size and held up quite well within the brioche bun. Although there was nothing too outstanding with this burger, I would love to come back to try out some of their displayed sandwiches/pastries which looked divine! Would also love to see a wider variety of allergy/dietary friendly options; they do offer a few vegan and vegetarian options, and I would be so grateful in more cafes could make dairy free an option (as their menu says ‘they politely decline any alterations to the menu’, which is also understandable). Would highly suggest to any friends and family as a great brunch spot within the Canterbury district.

I’m quite a foodie and have been to a number of cafes, and this is honestly a stand out cafe. Every element of the experience was memorable, from the food, service to ambience. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a place to take their girlfriend, mother, father, friend….I recommend any person looking for their next brunch stop to come here. ASAP.

Food: Such a high standard of food. The soft shell crab burger was definitely the highlight. The coleslaw in the burger was perfect, the sweetness, the tartness, the crunch. The soft shell crab; not oily whatsover, crispy, crunchy, heavenly. Lovely and soft brioche bun as well. The in house made tomato relish in the burger made us love it even more! Also thoroughly enjoyed the potato rostis! I’m not usually one to go for it, but the smoked salmon was melt-in-your-mouth texture, the potato rosti and poached egg with that thyme-infused hollandaise? A match made in heaven. By the time we got to the Madame Bircher our stomachs were also crying, but as any other foodie, we knew we needed to try it. The rose-water infused flavour provided a unique, sweet, fragrant perfume and flavour to the bircher. The presentation was also on point!

Service: The staff at Chapter Three are absolute gems. Sally, the manager, greets her customers with such an enthusiasm and warmth that automatically puts a smile on your face. The other waiters were also radiating such hospitality that made you feel at home. The dishes arrived so promptly as well.

Ambience: This cafe is situated on the main streets of Cantebury, one of the cafes lining Maling Street. Love the old-school, at-home, gourmet Melbournian vibe that the cafe and the surrounds brings. From the moment we stepped in till when we left, the cafe was fillling up quickly with customers by lunchtime.

Definitely one of the best food experiences I have ever had the privilege of having. This has become the top of my list for cafes if I ever want to take a friend out for a meal. Can’t wait to see what they will do with the new release of their dinner menu just last month!!!
