A little place near RMIT served a fusion of Korean and Japanese cuisines which was quite interesting.
The menu had quite a selection and so we ordered the big hot pot stew which had a mixture of Korean and Japanese ingredients which included pieces of raw beef meat and was served with little complimentary condiments.
It wasnt anything too special and the broth was ok but a little tasteless. Probably because of the lack of ingredients that was suppose to flavour the broth more but failed to do so.
I would suggest getting the main dishes which sounded a little more appetising than having a pot full of ingredients which could be done at any home at a cheaper price.

Went for late lunch – this place is 10 min walking distance from melb uni (parkville) and RMIT! Popular, but still seating instantly available, not that big inside. There are the classic korean and jap options in the menu. Ordered: teriyaki chicken bento box ($12.50)
The good:
– price is reasonable ($12.50 for a good size bento box)
– staff are warm/friendly; wait time is OK
– interior is clean/neat
Not so good:
– some teriyaki chicken was tough 🙁 sauce was also a bit salty
Overall, not bad jap-korean place, i would mostly go for convenience and to satisfy cravings!!
I am a bit unsure why this place has got good reviews. I think their food is mediocre and so would probably give it a 2.5 Star. I ordered the beef, egg and potato noodle hot pot which is $16. Not that cheap.
The beef doesnt taste super fresh and it was a bit tough. I cant even find the egg yolk but the mushrooms are good. Taste-wise its ok, nothing to write home about.
The mini side dishes were oily and the kim chi isnt that great.

The interior is decorated very nicely. I really enjoyed the dining experience here as they treated us very hospitably. I tried takoyaki for the first time here, and it tasted amazing! (I always order takoyaki as a side now!). Furthermore, this place is only two tram stops down Swanston St, and within walking distance of Melbourne Uni. It’s not very big but there was enough space for us. I would recommend trying this place if you are a student at RMIT or UniMelb or live close by!
Big Mama is more like a Japanese restaurant than a Korean one. The menu combined light flavored Korean food, such as chicken soup, with authentic Japanese food. The Agedashi tofu is wonderful. After finishing one serve, all I want is the second one.
