Italian eatery on Lygon. (3.5)
Ambience: The place is quite spacious, not sure about the inside as we were seated outside but the outside area was heated and wasn’t crampy. It has a pretty chill ambience overall.
Service: The staffs were okay nice, food came out reasonably quick, though it was a but hard to get their attention despite some standing outside.
Food: The pizza here are more bready, not too thick nor thin with just jice crunch and not too oily either.
Lygon special was pretty good, I like the combination between the sweet pineapple, prawns, salami and mushrooms. (Not for the pineapple hater though, also the prawn looks like they just put three of them up there though fresh)
Meat lovers is definitely for those who love meat because it is loades with slices ham and pork belly which is good but too much for me, gets too salty as well.
Zucca was my favorite as i love how all the toppings work together, sweet from pumpkin, bit of crunch from zucchini, along with the foamy ricotta and salty semi dried tomatoes. The ricotta might be bit much but depending on your taste it can be good, also can do with more pumpkin.
All pizzas were pretty good, with good amount of toppings and flavors. but would like them to have more tomato sauce and also mozarella cheese as they’re bit dry, also for the dough to be chewier.
Chai latte was decent, chai wasn’t as strong and more in the milkier side.
The Wine (moscato) was good though and decently priced as well.
Price: prizes were decent for what you get.
YUM: lygon special

When you get a pizza you need to eat at a proper italian restaurant.
Heaven knows that Cafe Cavallino gets that right.
Based off Lygon street you could get lost in the myraid of italian eateries.
However, there is only one that really stands out. The building itself is old and the restaurant is one of the oldest Italian food services in the area.
Food
This dish was perfection from start to finish.
The sauce was light nice and crunchy perfectly cooked oven pizza and cut in good sizes that made you open your mouth.
I think this place is underestimated … as everyone was lining up for papa Ginos restaurant and missing out on this gem.
This place has our tic of approval
We sat outside on a cool winter night but under the heater is was delightful. Watching the vibe of what Lygon Street has to offer always has me begging for a street view.
Dinner was excellent with two medium sized pizzas that were extremely tasty with the right amount of toppings. Plus they arrived within ten minutes from ordering.
House red and good conversation made it a successful night.
Staff were fabulous.
Wheelchair friendly but not the toilets. Kid friendly. Parking ? Its Lygon Street – good luck but maybe the parking pixies will be kind to you.
Enjoy.
For a friends birthday treat, we visited this place. I ordered a blue hawaiin but turned up there wasnt blue colored drink left so I ended up getting the green Hawaiin. Regardless of the color, the taste was amazing with a prominent hint of pineapple.
For starters we ordered mixed bread which offered 6 assorted bread servings.
Main course was pasta and pizza. We ordered a Giardini in a pink sauce and alla pana in white sauce. For pizzas we had one vegetarian and modena which ha chicken and bell peppers. Too full with yummy food, we didnt try desserts.
Anther trip back to Lygs (Lygon st)
This place hasnt really changed since I started going back in 80s and 90s but thats a good thing.
You cant go wrong with a descent Pizza & Pasta particularly on a cold Melbourne night in (late november).
We had a traditional Capricciosa with added anchovies and chilli flakes together with a Gnocci Amatriciana which was pretty tasty and definitely will try again.
Real rating 3.75
Along the busy precinct of Lygon Street, we had randomly selected a restaurant to dine in as we were hungry and what luck we had selecting Cafe Cavallino! Heres what we had!
Carbonara – we had gotten the spaghetti and fettuccine separately but both were delicious in their own way! What I liked about their carbonara is that they added in a lot of egg and cheese which made all of it melt into my mouth! The bacon pieces were cooked perfectly and was complimentary with the eggy dishes!
We had a good experience and would love to visit again to try their pizzas next time!
