This place was much smaller than I thought but we were lucky to snatch a table for ourselves. It’s a favourite of students and Chinese who crave for hand pulled noodles.
To start I got their spicy cumin lamb burger, a nice toasty pita that snaps when you take a bite. The lamb was nicely seasoned with cumin but for my preference I’d like it to be fattier so you get more bursts of flavour.
I also got their BiangBiang, one of their speciality dishes. A quick mix of ingredients and spices (I mixed in half at first in case I die from the chilli) and I take a bite into it. These were some damn chewy noodles and I say that in the best way possible, they were so satisfyingly nice to bite into. Paired with some stewed beef cubes and you’re set for a mouth numbing experience.
Left full (those bowls were huge), the west are always generous with their portions and the noodles are unique to the Shaanxi region. I hope to see more restaurants pop up serving different types of Chinese cuisine (there’s 8 Chinese cuisines in total, some hugely underrepresented). If you hadn’t noticed, I do love my noodles and this is a must if you love them thick and chewy like I do!
A slightly cramped and busy restaurant. You pay for your meal first at the counter, and the food comes relatively fast. We ordered the beef and lamb burgers which were not bad, along with the Dolan spicy beef BiangBiang noodles (E1) and hot oil/tomato/egg/beef noodles (E6). Both noodles were nice and the food is reasonably priced, although personally not the style of noodles I love and not sure I’d be back considering all the noodle options in town.
Will come back for:
+ Uyghur Yogurt
+ Mount Qi Beef Spicy Biang Biang Noodle
+ Spicy Cumin Lamb Burger
If you are craving for a bit of noodle but want to try something a little different, give this place a shot. The Biang Biang noodles are hand pulled and textural, and spicy. All very appetising. I particularly like the Mount Qi Beef Biang Biang noodle as it had a slight sourness to it that made the dish moorish. We also tried the spicy beef noodles and the braised beef noodles which were also good. Be warned though, serving size is on the generous side (which is not a bad thing if you love your noodles). The spicy cumin lamb burger was a delight. Crunchy outside, packed with cumin and well cooked lamb, and the yogurt reminded me of a mango lassi. And it all works! The place is not big, so you will need to try your luck getting a table, but its pretty popular with the students around the area. Service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely be back!
