Not much introduction needed for this place, I guess no one would disagree that this is one of the hottest cafes in CBD
.
A nice variety of Asian-inspired menu, we started off with a @st_ali batch brew, nice strong aroma For the main, we had the most popular option, CRAB MEAT SCRAMBLE ($19.5) & EGG BENNY
.
CRAB MEAT SCRAMBLE came with a generous amount of crab meat, scrambled eggs were soft and creamy, perfectly paired with the fried shallot, red chilli and a flaky croissant . EGG BENNY wasnt that remarkable but still tasty, pork belly was a bit on the fatty side, the miso and potato korokke got a crispy and crunchy outer coating, and generous portion sizes.
.
Overall, Humble Rays has one of the best Asian inspired brunch offerings in Melbourne and a perfect coffee destination.
Its good to come in the morning so I dont need to queue as in the afternoon .. so i tried the salmon and the chilli crab.. i love the salmon more then the chilli crab. Good portion, good ambience, good staff too.
Nicely decorated and comfortable brunch place, very accomodating staff, nice and efficient customer service.
The presentation of crab meat scramble was superb amazing, but taste wise i feel it was just ok. It is quite filling too and I feel the price is reasonable.
The Egg benny was nice. I am amazed with the ginger braise belly. the texture of that belly fat was slightly crispy outside but super soft inside, it just straight melted in mouth.
My first time to try hojicha latte, I feel it was too sweet. But overall everything was lovely!!
Very nicely decorated cafe and friendly, efficient, accommodating staff.
The crabmeat scramble, which seems to be the most popular dish, certainly deserved all the hype. The food was absolutely mindblowing. The scrambled eggs were done perfectly with a nice milky texture, and the added touch of fresh chillies and fried shallots added a good spice and oomph of flavour. The croissant complemented the dish well too. Very well done. For the price, the food was definitely of good value too.
4.5
A nice Asian inspired cafe menu, with lots of interesting choices.
French toast, $19, was fluffy and flavoursome with plenty of fun toppings. Everything is set up to be very Instagram worthy.
Excellent affogato, $6, with vanilla bean ice cream.
Very cute modern decor. Can be quite busy at peak lunch/brunch times.
Ahhhh…..Humble Rays! Where the queue is always long but the experience makes up for it.
By the time we got a table, ordered our food and waited for the dishes to arrive, I could have eaten a house!
The Egg White and Bacon had so many things going on but it all just worked so well together. Perfectly cooked eggs, edamame, quinoa and multigrain rice with chilli, tomato, coriander, spring onion….all topped with bacon – mamamia!
The Red Velvet Skookie was an out of this world experience. I could have eaten that red velvet white chocolate cookie all day long – it’s that addictive. And who doesn’t like Persian fairy floss?
Take a bow Humble Rays! You have a lot to be proud of!
I have been wanting to try out this cafe for the longest time and I finally did last weekend. This popular cafe gets busy on the weekends, so my friend and I arrived around 9.30am to beat the crowds. We sat on the communal table and the staff was prompt to take our orders.
I got myself a hojicha latte with the eggs benny, while my friend ordered the chai tea with milk with the crab meat. scramble. I found the hojicha latte a tad sweet (I wonder if they added sugar to it?) but i did enjoy the nutty flavour of the tea. My friend also found her chai too sweet and only took a few sips of hers.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our dishes and it was prettily presented and tasted even better. It’s a very generous portion size and we had difficulty finishing it.
Definitely one of the top breakfast places I’ve been to this year. Would totally come back to try the other dishes on the menu!
