Attended the rooftop for a second time. The space is impressive but service poor and not welcoming bordering on rude. Drinks are expensive especially $14 for spritz on tap which is like water or $16 for a freshly made aperol spritz which is extortion for Carlton. This place has so much potential but need to improve. Our group ordered burgers and the pricing on the menu did not match the cash register and when we queried it with the staff they looked at us like we were being ridiculous. Overall the venue is fantastic and the type of rooftop Carlton desperately needed to bring some life back to the street but service, food and drinks are average.
We were excited to come here after attending the opening of the rooftop and after the incredible renovation.
We arrived, had a stroll around and took a seat at a table. A middle aged woman with a nose ring (who was front of house) approached us and in a snappy tone asked if we had just sat down. Her insincere smile was a mask for her terrible mood!
We watched her huff, puff, snap and roll her eyes at almost everyone that walked in. She set an awful tone for our entire day and are still stunned at her behaviour towards the customers! It reflects poorly on this Melbourne institution. Not a good first experience there and what a shame…..All the other team members who waited on us were super friendly, the food we had was gorgeous and so is the new set up, but you cannot have someone so dry and hostile at front of house.
If you dont like people, dont work in hospitality!
Went to Johnny’s Green Room on the roof. It’s super spacious and well set out – plenty of tables and seats of different sizes. Sampled three different drinks from the drinks menu and liked all of them. The staff were friendly and the view is really lovely. Will definitely be back!
The popular venue on Lygon Street. I was just passing by and only got an almond croissant. Because I’m trying to review and compare the almond croissants in different cafes on Lygon Street, so for me, this shop offers a good quality almond croissant, though it was not crispy enough, butit tasted not such sweet (I can’t stand super sweet croissant). 3.5/5 for the almond croissant.
