Serves Halal meat.
Had heard quite alot about the Malaysian street hawker restaurant. The place is small & overflows during the peak hour. Make sure you reach before time and grab a seat.
I tried the Fried chicken Nasi Lemak with traditional Sambal as an add-on. The coconut rice was absolutely a pleasure to have, but the overall dish wasn’t that impressive experience. Just something new to try with a pocket friendly budget.

Dare I say that this is one of the best laksas in Melbourne….? Yes, I dare!
It was interesting (and therefore unique) that I was asked to select the level of spiciness of the laksa broth.
The chicken was extra tasty and went well with the well seasoned laksa soup.
Oh….and they have a variety of nasi lemaks that you can’t find elsewhere too. Definitely a place worth returning to over and over again.

Nasi Lemak House is always a nice and quick place to have a bite at when around Melbourne University. Their chicken laksa is nice and coconut-y (I would not recommend if you’re not into coconut!) and the portions are pretty good as well. The chicken was also tender (if not a little dry) but is always a safe bet when you’re hungry for some lunch.
The only downside about the place is that the seating is limited and a little cramped, but that’s normally expected at a place in the city.
Before this place renovated and modernised it’s menu and image a few years ago, it was a humble little kitchen selling authentic and traditional Malaysian cuisine. Unfortunately, I’m don’t think the revamp has been for the better. The prices are now higher, portions are smaller, there is very little inside seating space now as they appear to be encouraging takeaway orders with nice boxes. This place used to be where the Singaporean and Malaysian students living nearby could come for a hearty meal and a taste of home – the practical and unpretentious layout served its purpose well, while the new image doesn’t do much to attract the local clientele. A real shame in my opinion.
I got there last week to have a chicken fried flat rice noodle dish. At first, it tasted like burning sauce and that could be seen just by eyes. The burning taste at the beginning was OK but later on, it was super salty as I kept eating the next bites. The chicken was tough and a big burnt. I am not sure if it is meant to be burnt. I could not finish all of this dish by myself. I will not choose this dish again if I come back there.
