On the weekend I was served by a cute Chinese boy who made a lovely coffee for myself. Very friendly staff with quick and efficient service!

Some pretty bad coffee on campus but Porta Via really takes the cake. Can’t complain about the lady who served me she was very friendly. Didn’t care for the baristas singing and chatting with each other while making the tar they call coffee though 🙂

    Porta Via
Staff might not be friendly most of the time (their glares can be pretty unnerving before you’ve had your morning coffee) but the baristas do make consistently good coffees. Their salads tend to be quite soggy so I suggest sticking to their selection of pricey, but decent pastries. They’re pretty much one of the few cafes near Melbourne Uni that’s open on Sunday so it’s definitely very convenient for students.

The food and coffee offerings at Porta Via are pretty sub-par. As it’s at the bottom of my university building, I regretfully keep going back out of desperation. While most staff I’ve dealt with have been very friendly, there’s only 1-2 who I’ve had a decent coffee made by in the past year. The food is all pre-prepared and obscenely overpriced – you’d be pushing $8 for a cheese and tomato toastie. Multiple times after ordering this very toastie, I’ve had to go upstairs to use my university building’s microwave as the cheese had not been properly melted. Most of the time I’d rather be a little late for class due to venturing slightly further for a coffee than settling for Porta Via fare. If you’re a unimelb law student who’s really desperate for a quick bite/caffeine hit then you may have to settle, however if you’re just passing by the area you could definitely do better elsewhere.

Oh my….$7.50 for a bacon and egg muffin. No butter, sauce or care. Pre made store bought muffin, fried egg and a slice of dry fat free bacon, in the sandwich toaster for way too long. No thanks.

Incredibly watered down coffee, milk was not frothed. Ordered a mocha that had no chocolate taste at all. Would consider instant coffee more worthwhile at the price.

They have the best coffee on campus, I come multiple times every week to get my daily mocha. It’s strong so just the way I like it. I think the food is a little overpriced though considering what your get. I ordered a teriyaki chicken wrap once, didn’t really taste like teriyaki chicken, it was half filled, loosely wrapped, and fell apart after 2 bites. If you ever visit here, just stick to the coffee
