Had the mini hot pot at Spice 9 Girl, it’s not really good actually. I mean, it’s not we usually have in China, as a Chinese restaurant, the dishes come out are quite disappointing. However, for students in Melb Uni, it’s a convenient place to have a quick meal.
I walked in intending to order takeaway from this place, but decided to go to the bathroom before I ordered because I was busting. I waited for over 10 minutes before knocking on the bathroom door, concerned when no-one answered, I knocked again – the person in the bathroom punched the door from the inside and then came out and started yelling at me for knocking on the door. Turns out she worked there. I then heard her walk through the restaurant and start yelling about me in front of customers. She got another waiter who tried to physically intimidate me out the back of the restaurant, both of them shouting at me all in front of customers. I am a very small, quietly-spoken female and they were bullying and intimidating me out of their restaurant for simply knocking on the door of the restaurant bathroom after it had been occupied for a concerning amount of time. It was appalling and bizarre behaviour and I was too shocked at the time to really do anything about it. Do not eat here. The staff are completely insane.
Dont really like this food. I was so thirsty after meal. They do put too many MSG in every dishes and I got to drink a lot a lot water. Sorry i will not be back. terrible food.
Ordinary No value…. Fried noodle ordered… noodles were ordinary. And not fried.. tasted out of a very old packet. Sprinkled with some offcut cubes of chicken… pieces which you would not serve to anybody…everything was fresh and sauce was ok… but very very ordinary.. noodles sub par… just chinese trying to rip people off in my opinion.. probably a front… staff were excellent although none speak english… so that was fun…
Bad dish. Called in last week with a couple of friends and ordered a Szechuan pork and noddles soup. I was expecting hot, but what a got was an oily soup full of noodles with some broken pork bones with barely any meat in them. It was (chilly) hot, but the flavour was of raw, uncooked spices which tasted like they have been added just before the dish was served.
Very disappointing.
Worst services around Melb Uni.. I went there for lunch occasionally because it is near my Uni. The services there are always poor. I wrote this review because their waitresses just pieced me off today. Both of my friend and I ate only a quarter of our own dishes and we went to pay the bill and also bought the take way boxes (leave over for later meals). But the girl just throw our food away when we returned to our table. What made us upset is both these two waitress did not feel sorry at all. We walked out speechless and I swear I will never go back to this place again.
For Szechuan that is authentic, delicious and wonderfully cheap, you can’t go past Spice 9 Girl. It’s my favourite place in Melbourne! The customisable mini hot-pot is great for lunch, and brimming with spicy goodness (I always order extra ‘numbing’ peppercorns). The fish is particularly good, and the friendly chef even once cooked spicy Chong Qing chicken for me, even though it wasn’t on the menu. The atmosphere is very informal, more like cafe-style eating, but a definite must for lunch if you like Szechuan!
