After reading some great reviews we decided on a this venue for a 9:30 business breakfast on Saturday morning for four of us. It does have a nice clean and modern feel as you walk in and we were greeted with a friendly hello. There were only two tables occupied at the time and we asked for one of the booths to the rear of the restaurant to give us more space and privacy. Sorry we don’t use this unless we’re full. Oh but you can sit here, near the front door delivering a cold blast of winter air every time someone opened the front door. We then notice two sets of couples being shown to the booth seating area. That’s nice we thought.
On the coffee, it was good and as expected. The food was OK, you could say colourful, but with a lack of flavour punch. We all left feeling a little underwhelmed after a sizable bill.

Delicious chai and a really clever Winter Omelette made with ratatouille and cheese, capers with some hectically yumm sourdough.
Just the cheering up for a couple of Night shifters before a nap.
Lygon St. isnt just for dinner anymore.
We tried St. Charly for the first time today, and it was delicious! Our lattes were amazing, and my French toast was perfection. They use quality ingredients and it shows. I dont know what magic they do with their bacon, but you wont leave a bite of it. The fat was perfectly rendered and the bacon itself had a lovely smokey flavor.
Well definitely be back.
So much potential, but falls short.
If there is one thing that Lygon Street really needs, its a quality cafe. Sure there are a few nearby, but none really on the main strip.
We had been wanting to drop in for awhile, but since were late eaters we always seemed to miss it, until today.
I had the omelette. The best way I can describe it is… rubbery (I wont bother with the photo. The garnish had seen better days. And the sourdough… Nothing to write home about, but I couldnt even finish it.
Cute venue, but on the food alone, not recommended. Too many offerings nearby in a similar price bracket of far better quality (but then Im probably not the intended market.)
3/5 for the food.
1/5 for the coffee
3/5 for the service.
I ordered the Mushroom Medley, and it was pretty good. The mushrooms were good on their own, but the sauerkraut didnt go with the rest of the dish, and overall, it was very oily. I picked up the bread and oil ran down my hand and arm. A bit much.
My wife ordered a special. I think it was smoked salmon pasta with white cream sauce. Pretty good.
The worst part of the entire experience was the coffee. I think the beans they use were burnt, and carry no flavour or complexity. It was just heavy, and burnt. I ordered a long black, and they used way too much water. I think my cup had around 120-150 ml of coffee in it, when a proper long black should be around 70-80 ml. As you can guess, it was weak. Anyway, they need to source better coffee beans, and get a better barista. Most baristas drink short and long blacks, so its surprising that one wouldnt know how to make a long black!!!!
Also, the manager was openly mean to my waitress in front of everybody. She was quite audible. It was embarrassing and hard to listen to. Our waitress was nice. Maybe she didnt do something perfectly, but regardless, it was poorly handled.
