Aunties has been around for years and has never failed to impress. From dumplings to noodles, never once a bad meal has ever been served up.

However, our recent visit today after the last one about a year ago, ended up in utter disappointment.

We both agreed that the broth in the Shanghai Hot Pork Meat in Noodle Soup was rather bland and that the pork lacked love. We had to add quite a fair bit of chilli oil (which was really tasty) to the broth to lift the dish up a notch.

In the past, their Dan Dan Noodles in Spicy Pork Sauce was a star and one of my favourites here, but somehow it missed the mark today. The sauce wasnt very well balanced – the amount of dried shrimps in there seemed to overpower the other ingredients of the sauce, resulting in the flavours of the whole dish getting lost in translation.

Their dumplings (be it fried, boiled or in soup) have always been top notch, but today, the Chilli Oil Dumplings in Soup proved otherwise. Regrettably, the filling was as bland as the soup they were served in and the dumpling skins were too thick.

Our side serve of spring rolls failed to salvage what little was left of our experience. Whilst they tasted alright, the filling was dismal.

All in all, the service is as basic as it gets and it is a good place to go for a cheap feed. Whilst the noodles themselves were a redeeming factor and still have a good texture to them, it would be nice if Aunties can maintain an overall consistency across the times and their menu.

A great little place for when youre craving some good, cheap dumplings. When dining here I ordered an assortment of dishes, but the only one that stood out would be their specialty boiled peking pork dumpling. Lots of filling, juicy, flavourful, with a nice chewy but not-too-thick skin.
Service was a bit slow and staff werent too attentive; when we tried to pay it took quite a while for someone to come to the counter despite the fact they werent really doing anything.
