Do not know where the negatives comments are coming from. Must be a total misunderstanding of polish cuisine. Europa Carnegie has everything you need! Good coffee, nice homy food, delicious cakes, pastries, danishes and dounts made daily:-) on the top of that add reasonable prices, what else do you need? They’ve got it all here. Amazing, authetic Polish taste!

This is the first and last time I ate at this cafe. I would rate it at ZERO. I ordered two meals for two people, which was one pork schnitzel and one beef stew on potato pancake. It was a disgrace to be presented with such dreadful inedible, tasteless, oily food that is the worst food I have ever eaten in Melbourne. On top of that the price was exorbitant and a total rip off. Don’t ever bother to eat at this cafe. It is an insult to Polish cuisine.

Staff have an edgy personality at this shop.
Sometimes happy, sometimes rude and aggressive.
The products are of average quality with some high distinctions.
    Coffee is ok.

I happened to be in Carnegie and in need of some cakes or slices for a family afternoon tea and found Europa cafe with its clear advertising for Polish Doughnuts (Pczki). Being quite a fan of all things round I must have had a look of delight on my face as I looked in the window, as an old timer local lady came and talked to me about how she used to make her own and a reasonably long history of polish baking in Australia. Impromptu history lesson aside these doughnuts looked huge and there was a number of other tasty items we decided to purchase including peanut butter macarons. When I went into the shop I also discovered practically everyone was eating the polish dumplings and the smell was so good I had to enquire. They sold them frozen so I grabbed me 25 of the potato cheese dumplings for ron. As of yet untried.

The bad new for Europa and us is that when we got to our afternoon tea venue instead of giving us peanut butter macarons they gave us yoyos . There wasn’t anything wrong with these yoyos but they were not what we ordered or probably paid for.

    Geeeeeeeeeeergh!!!

Was really keen to try the macarons

The other bad news for Europa is that I really didn’t love the rich dark plum jam filling. This is going to sound strange, but it seemed to have a smokiness about it. Could the jam have caught perhaps?

I thought I would love this place based on what I saw at the window but was overall disappointed. Let’s hope my dumplings are good. Will update my review when I get a chance to try them.

Update: we subsequently cooked up the potato cheese dumplings and they were flavoursome and substantial. Totally enjoyed.

According to an old Polish proverb, doughnuts are nutritious. Or at least this is what a fellow Polish Luncher once said after a few Zubrowka’s. Europa is the only place The Dear Luncher is aware of that sell these particular Polish delights. Best eaten with a nice espresso, the jam within is rich and thick. As for the proverb, well The Dear Luncher thinks his Polish friend is full of it.
