Amazing size with reasonable price!!!! One single dish can well serve at least two people, liked girls in my size, lol. Chief must be an expert of cooking lamb and all sorts of noodles, with yummy sauces.
I started taking a fancy to Uyghur cuisine since being introduced to it years ago because of its simplicity and heartiness.
Uyghur restaurants are pretty scarce in and around Melbourne, so it was great to see this place added to the Carnegie food scene, and as with any other Uyghur establishments, lamb is the major protein on the menu.
We first came by here with the mere intention of having a quick snack of some meat skewers before heading off elsewhere for dinner. As fate would have it, we enjoyed the medley of skewers so much that we stayed on for dinner and were equally impressed by our mains of dry stir fried quarter length handmade noodles and cumin crispy lamb ribs that night.
This time round, we had the Aqqik Mush Lagman, a wet version of long handmade noodles with lamb and chilli. The noodles were a touch underdone, but the gravy held its own to redeem the dish and packed a punch. With a good balance of sweet, savoury and sour notes to it, I unashamedly lapped up every drop of it.
We did not see the light in the Kala Tili Salat we tried that day, as the dressing for this beef tongue salad was too tame to balance out the thick cut of tongue, rendering it mediocre.
The Pitir Manta unfortunately left me walking around the rest of the day with an onion breath. These thin layered momo-like buns filled with lamb, contained an overwhelming amount of undercooked onions!
Service was good first time round. This time however, we were served by a poker faced lady who was by no means rude, but the cold aura she exuded made us feel unwelcome. On a lighter note, my partner managed a smile out of her at the end.
