This place gets 5 stars for one reason: It’s Chef, PBUH.
Food Taste: High quality ingredients and an appetizing array of seeds, green leaves, and other nutritious elements. The Chef is a peerless genius and he’s powers the whole cafe. There is no argument that the main reason to come here is to experience his cooking prowess.
Food Presentation: Absolutely stunning! Some of the best that I have seen in all of Melbourne, and yet in such an unexpected place…
Coffee: Delicious, lightly roasted, and gentle on the palette.
Service: Courteous but not overly friendly or gregarious. Most of the people working there look Filipino, so I’m guessing it’s a family run business.
Decor: Nondescript, modern, clean, but far too simple. Needs work to really make the place feel warm and interesting.
Hygiene: Looks good!
Room for improvement: Sugar & sweetener not on some tables. Back room needs a new coat of paint.
Highly recommended: Green Power Smoothie, Pumpkin Smash, Blackberry and White Chocolate Muffins (omg…)
General Conclusion: This cafe stands in a strange zone between quaint and one of the best cafes in Melbourne. Its strengths are its flawless menu, grandmaster-level Chef, artistic food, and invigorating smoothies. Its weaknesses are the wait staff that don’t really welcome you with warmth or ask how you are, and the lackluster decor. What is really needed is a bold and daring design element that is a little unexpected and draws you in with its tasteful strangeness, without being over-done. That said, The Nude Duck stands as one of my favorite cafe’s in Melbourne. Bravo!
Lovely atmosphere, the coffee is good and staff are always friendly. Snacks are pretty good too. Haven’t had much of the cooked food though. Overall dependable cafe that I like returning to.
