Come for Malatang again!!! Well, nothing special for Malatang but I admit that the soup is not so salty as the one I had in city. The staff are very hospitable and friendly. We got a tin of coke for free by sharing its advertising lol. Seems like they also sell roasted fish, various noodles and Sichuan sides.
I like this place, they have many kinds of way to cook. You could choose cook with soup or without soup. Also you could decide what you want to be cooked! I can eat a lot spicy food, but this place is more spicy than I could handle, so I just order with a little bit spicy and I really enjoy it! They will give you $5 voucher if you spend over $30
This fairly new addition to the Carnegie food scene offers the latest trend of buffet style hot pot where you pick your own ingredients, get it weighed ($15.80 per 500g), choose a soup base (spicy or non spicy) and they do the cooking and dishing up for you.
Selection wise: There is a generous variety of the usual processed hot pot items like fish balls, chikuwa, sausages, spam, crab sticks etc. and a decent variety of meat, seafood, vegetables and noodles.
There are also other dishes on offer in their menu which is not very extensive nor descriptive, but is an alternative for those who do not wish to have the hot pot.
As for my customised hot pot, I opted for my selected ingredients to be served in their spicy soup base whilst my partner went for the opposite.
The ingredients themselves were decent, being the standard selections that one would find in most hot pot places. However, the broth itself was a star and brought the whole dish together. It was deliciously rich and creamy, akin to the Japanese tonkotsu ramen broth.
It was a shame that their sesame dipping sauce was too watered down, hence lacking in flavour and intensity.
Non-Mandarin speaking people like us will find that language can be a barrier here. Dont get me wrong – service was very friendly and helpful, but communication proved slightly difficult.
Nonetheless, it was a rather satisfying lunch outing overall.
This is a bit far from the Koornang strip but worth the walk. Friendly service, good tasting malatang and with a good selection of veggies and meats. Much better than the jingfeng shijia. Have come back a couple of times and left happy each time. Thanks guys for the malatang!
