Very authentic, homemade authentic food. We had the mezza banquet for 2 and all the food was great. The babaganoush was a standout. Nice ambience, staff were friendly, but the food was the real highlight (as it should be).
For authentic Lebanese food, definitely recommend Almazett.
Took my staff to this restaurant for dinner. They seemed to struggle with feeding 16 people. The food was tasty and not too oily. I would recommend for take away or smaller groups. It was also a little off putting with nobody else in restaurant. Would have been better atmosphere with more people in there.
Will try again in the near term.
Probably a good place for take away.
Delicious food. Lamb cutlets and deep fried cauliflower with tahini were my favourites. Got a seat on Friday night without any booking. Lots of people getting takeaways
Pretty good place decor and food is amazing we ordered the banquet and while the food is great and lots of it for $50 it was way to rushed they really need to slow down times between bringing food out.. also they have belly dancers on Saturday night which was pretty cool
Fantastic value for money ! Definitely recommend it. 34 per person for all
you can eat and the food was great quality…………………..
I was expecting a bit better of Almazett, even though I’d been told that it wasn’t right up there as far as middle eastern restaurants go. Even so, we had a meal here that was certainly not unenjoyable, just nothing mind-blowing. We had a group of 8, and it took a little time to decide whether to have the banquet or just do the a la carte. Whether it was because it’s more convenient for them to cook, or just better for their buck, we were encouraged by the waiter to do the banquet (which I hear often happens here). But we realised that it would be more cost effective to order a la carte, and this also meant that we could choose what we wanted, including seafood. Doing this meant that, In the end, we probably spent half the amount we otherwise would have, tried a wide variety of dishes, and were stuffed. I would recommend this option if you’re in a medium to large group.
Naturally, for appetizers we got some dips and salads to eat with the pita bread. The labneh bi toom was a typical yoghurt style dip, with a garlic flavour. It was good, but a bit more sour than I’m used to. The baba ghanooj had good texture, but was lacking punch and smokiness.
In the salad department, we ordered the tabouleh and the fattoush. The tabouleh was very nice, no complaints there except the flavours came through a little unevenly. I thought the fattoush was nice, but the fried bread can make or break it, and I didn’t like this fried bread. It was too much like thin chips, and it didn’t add that slightly grainy savouriness to compliment the other flavours in the salad.
Next came the meat cigars and the arnabeet mekli (fried cauliflower). The meat cigars were–and I’ll say it a few times in this review–pleasant but lacking flavour. Got mostly textural feeling out of it. The crunch of the pastry and the nice rough chewiness of the mince. Wasn’t much emanating from either, sauce from the pastry or spices from the mince. Underwhelming. The cauliflower was probably my favourite dish, as this was both a new experience, and ticked the boxes for flavour. It seemed like it had been generously dusted or marinated in some spices before being fried, and had a delightful brown crispiness going on. Eaten with the tahina, it was gold. These were all followed by the chicken wings, kradis bi harr (grilled prawns in piquant sauce) and both lamb and chicken skewers. The chicken wings were decent, though noticeably dry, not terribly juicy. There was a pleasant amount of flavour. The prawns would have been my second favourite dish I think. They were also a bit dry, but the delightful charred flavour and the piquant sauce came together well and made it enjoyable. The grilled meats were decent, slightly more tough than what I’ve had previously, but these also has a pleasant amount of flavour and went down well.
I think Almazett is a great place to come if you’re looking for a cheaper middle eastern feed, which still boasts the decor and provides excellent menu choice. However, the quality of the food will not be the same as many of it’s pricier counterparts.
Worth every dollar! Quality of food was amazing and service was impeccable. Very pleased and the ambience was really great. I used my Liven App tp pay and got a $50 bonus. You got to try this place out!
