Danish Nosh is a bakery/cafe located on Glenhuntly Road in Caulfield. It has recently changed owners & after a big makeover it has a much more modern & contemporary feel. At the same time new owner Yaniv is respecting the traditions and patrons who have been loyal customers by keeping to the authentic recipes which have proved popular over the years. I was delighted to visit & sit down with Yaniv & Lana over coffee to chat about the business.
It was a busy time leading up to Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) when I visited but this also meant I was able to watch some of the incredible pastries coming out of the oven, absolute bliss. The smell was out of this world & sampling some warm honey cake offcuts was a definite highlight.
Danish Nosh have a huge range of pastries, from more traditional bagels & Challah to savoury pastries & danishes. Sampling was the fun part & the flavours were incredible. The apple, apricot & poppyseed danishes were my favourites but there was so much variety, Ill need to go back to try some more, a good sign.
Such a warm & welcoming group of people, working hard to honour the traditions while adding in some more modern touches. Thank you so much for having me & I look forward to catching up again soon.
Today we were lucky enough to come to Danish Nosh and try some delicious pastries. This cafe bakery has recently changed owners after around 25 years of operations. New owner Yaniz has modernised the interior with a fresh style that borrows a little of the old for a great new look. We previously met Yaniz at Zeppelin cafe in Brighton where he created some of the inventive dishes on the menu there (also reviewed).
Whilst chatting over coffee about the exciting plans for the space next door, we tucked in to tasty seriously flakey pastries. We started on the savoury pastries which were all vegetarian friendly. There was the eggplant (super smokey and packed with flavour), Potato (delicious, mixed with a subtle spice), Mushroom (delectable), Cheese (wonderful bold flavour) and Spinach (creamy spinach texture). Im not sure that I could pick a favorite they all stood on their own merits.
Next we tried a selection of the sweet pastries, some were still warm. One of my favourites was the almond danish with a subtle citrus undertone. The apple danish had a hit of cloves and cinnamon, while the Blueberry Custard Danish had that classic custard flavour shines through. We also tried Poppyseed (included sultanas and a wonderful rich flavour), sour cherry danish and Mini chocolate rugelach, (mini chocolate croissants) oh so so so moorish and drool worthy.
With a lovely Hendricks coffee alongside our treats it was a truly decadent breakfast.
We also tried a plain bagel and I toasted some challah bread for an afternoon snack, authentic & perfect.
We look forward to seeing exciting development of this cafe in the very near future. Thanks so much for the invite.
I was invited to Nosh yesterday, which has brand new owners as of three weeks ago. I was super impressed with their vision and ambition to grow and improve given how early days it was. What differentiates this place is all of the items are made fresh daily by hand and with love.
Old school in such a good way, no machines churning out mass produced perfectly duplicated bagels and no gelatine or preservatives used in the cakes or pastries. I tried the delicious apple strudel which was one of my favourites and its real strudel pastry stretched in the right way not a store bough puff. Owner Yaniv is passionate about making everything in person for freshness and whats really impressive about that is the sheer variety they are making.
We were excited to encounter some pastries we hadnt tried before such as some poppy seed based danishes and a chocolate covered honey cake. These were both really yummy, very European and not wildly available around Melbourne so I strongly recommend trying. Another one i found special was the coconut macaroon- definitely one to take home or enjoy in house with an extremely well made coffee (according to Mum)
Very nice bagels with delicious filings. Coffee could be improved a bit but not too bad. Havent tried much else but we will definitely be back for more.
A cute new bakery in Caufield has landed and we were lucky to be invited to check out their range of sweet and savoury pastries. The owner Yaniv was super friendly and came out to chat to us about his background in the F&B industry and to give us an insight into his interpretations of israili inspired pastries.
We enjoyed both the savoury and sweet pastries. Each pastry was handmade with care. The highlight was the Rugelash which was a croissant style pastry filled with a cinnamon like filling.
A great spot to order finger food for parties and event to grab for afternoon tea. We look forward to their upcoming cafe!
Danish Nosh in Caulfield has recently been taken over by new owners who are super passionate about baking and bringing the best quality products to their customers. Yaniv, one of the owners, makes everything by hand and you can tell, when talking to him, that he loves what he does. Michael, one of the front of house staff, was an absolute superstar during our visit. He was super attentive and a joy to talk to.
I had a cute afternoon tea date with @suziescribbles while we were both on school holidays. We ordered two lattes and tried a selection of their sweet and savoury pastries including the following:
Apple puff pastry
Poppy seed Danish
Apricot Danish
Spinach and Feta puff pastry
Potato puff pastry
Pizza puff scroll
Chocolate Rugelach
Vanilla slice
Home made bagels stuffed with pastrami and smoked salmon
The stand out pastries for me were definitely the chocolate rugelach and the vanilla slice. The rugelach looked like a mini croissant that had a toffee chocolate folded through it and they were amazing! They were bite sized and I could have eaten a dozen of them. The vanilla slice has a lovely rich custard and flaky pastry. I ate this last and was sad that I didnt have more room in my belly to finish it off haha.
The bagels are made on site, by hand, every morning and can be made to order with a range of stuffings. Suzie took ours home and said they tasted very nice.
Danish Nosh is an absolutely beautiful bakery.
They do catering and sell pastries on site and if the word gets out, they are going to be very popular very soon. They want the public to know that the shop is under new management and they are working to spice up the menu and bring back old customers as well as inviting new people to try their goodies.
Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon, team
