Went to 50 Acres earlier tonight. Some very friendly staff which was positive. Unfortunately, my request to have vegetables instead of salad with my barramundi was declined. I was annoyed by this and it spoilt for me what should have been a good night. They just lost me as a customer because of this.
First time going for my birthday last week and was very impressed with how the RSL now looks compared to coming before as a little kid. Without a booking they were happy to cater for my baby and pram out of the way. The staff were very friendly and tried their best to help (even the waitress on her first night). They do need to become more knowledgeable on they 50 acres beer though as none of us could tell us where it was brewed from or what the taste was like. Onto the food: the rustic garlic bread wasnt garlic at all more of just bread that had been cooked in to much oil and had some butter ontop. This needs to be addressed big time. You cant have GARLIC BREAD without the GARLIC taste. Otherwise the rest of the food was very nice. We had the beef tacos, lamb curry and lemon pepper calamari. I dont have any other faults for the food as it was all very nice besides maybe some more salt on the chips but you can do that yourself at the tables. Although desert was not needed it was very much enjoyed besides my brownie that needed longer in the microwave before being served as you could tell it had been in the fridge all week and only zapped for 15 seconds to make the out sides slightly warm.
Was not impressed with their food at all. In this day and age, cafes are very competitive and they didn’t meet the mark.
We ordered pumpkin pancakes, which were ok, just a little under cooked; a brekky board which wasn’t too bad; lemon and blueberry waffles, they were tasteless and not that nice; and scotch eggs, the eggs themselves were nice but they were literally just placed on a bed of rocket. I ended up using maple syrup from the pancakes to get some more dimension!
Either I’m too fussy, or they need to lift their game!
It was Friday night, this place was pretty loud and service was rather slow. Good place for loud socials rather than a quick bite. Of the lamb shanks and swordfish dish, I liked the thai salad that came with the swordfish the most. The lamb shanks were nice but would of prefer some sauce to go along with it. Not a bad first experience at a RSL.
WHAT a great change from old to new , a brilliant new and exciting new bistro with fantastic meals, service and amazing views from inside looking out of the back of the bistro, not only great food chooses but spotlessly clean and on the way out have a go at the pokies . HIGHLY RECOMMEND, DOUG F FROM DINGLEY VILLAGE
Really lovely restaurant that had recently had a major update and it’s really good! Friendly staff and great food. I had the Thai beef salad, crisp fresh and yum. My partner had the chicken risotto and it was very tasty. Wine list is not bad, it had a fairly decent selection for a restaurant. Very happy and we will be regulars.
Definitely falls in to the ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’, once inside you’ll discover a newly renovated restaurant. The eye fillet was a show stopper, one of the best steaks I’ve had in years…..So blindfold up, remove quickly once inside and enjoy!
