Strong statement, but I’d say this is my favourite cafe in the north. There were doing innovative, aesthetically pleasing but also good-tasting dishes before anyone else. Take the taro latte, a sweet purple caffeine-free hot beverage, or their taro vegan ice cream served in a coconut. But my favourite dish of the moment is their peach and avocado bruschetta, an unexpectedly amazing combination.

The Glass Den has always caught our attention from their aesthetically pleasing looking dishes. If youre worried about lining up, dont be, this place is quite spacious with a indoors and outdoors dining area. The interior isnt quite the prettiest and looked quite beaten up but looks can be deceiving. Fun fact: it was once part of Pentridge Prison, which is now closed down but its quite interesting driving past it on the way here.
They offer a really extensive menu which is vegan friendly and has a variety of burgers, desserts, cakes, porridge – you name it! We decided to order the Bao Burger which had crispy chicken Katsu, pineapple, tomato, pickled onion, jalapeos, jam and wasabi mayonnaise. I thought the little gold touch on the bao was a really cute detail. It was quite an interesting dish – it was like eating a regular burger but with a different bun – the bao was nice and sweet and and slightly heavier than a normal brioche. The katsu was nice and crunchy on the outside and juicy in the inside. The addition of wasabi mayonnaise gave a lot more flavour.
We also ordered the sous vide lamb shoulder Benedict on top of a roti which was glazed in a vibrant beetroot hollandaise. It looked absolutely delicious. The lamb shoulder was shredded into little pieces making it a lot easier to eat. It was nice and soft – which is expected from something that had been sous vide. The egg was perfect poached as well!
The breakfast board was so huge! It came with eggs, bacon, chorizo, wild mushrooms, spice baked beans, guac and sourdough. This is pretty much what you call a damn breakfast board. There was so many different things to taste from.
Overall, plating was amazing. Food was yum! There was a really good selection. Customer service was great. We would defs return!
