Chips were good, nothing amazing but good! Salad was fresh and actually contained more than the usual 2 or 3 pieces of feta! There is no such thing as too much feta, ha. Potato cakes were pretty good, tasted sweet though (?)
Very disappointing meal. Fish wasn’t tasty and not properly cooked through. The salad was brown and wilted. Potatoes cakes were over cooked and disgusting. Not happy whatsoever.
We decided to stay in and order off Uber Eats – was disappointed in everything we got besides the chips. The chips were delicious. Unfortunately we got two grilled flake which tasted like they flavoured it with instant noodle chicken powder or something. The dim sims tasted sweet and the potato cakes were very greasy as if the deep fryer wasn’t hot enough. We really wanted this to be our go-to fish and chip shop but this didn’t do much for us 🙁
My office is just around the corner and full to the brim with in the know foodies. Being a vegetarian who does not eat fish I was a little hesitant to try it but those well designed posters and great interiors won me over. The place looks the part and does seem semi high-end for a fish and chip shop. It sits perfectly on the working class smith st and hipster suburb of Fitzroy and Collingwood.
I ordered the vege burger and small wedges (about $15). The burger was bland and the bun was the best part though way too much of it. Wedges were smothered in salt but not too bad – it would be hard to stuff these up. I was not super impressed with service or food and from what I understand from my co workers it’s average at best. It should try a bit harder if it wants to compete with all the amazing lunch options smith st has to offer.
Decent fish and chips / burger / souvlaki joint on Smith St. The staff are very friendly and always up for a chat when not too busy. The thing that takes the cake is Beer on Tap! Now where would you find nice hot tasty fish fillet and calamari crumbs with cold beer (pub rates).
The bread and butter chup shop of Smith St, with nice ‘special deal’ nights.
You can even grab an ale with your meal, I can’t think of any other chup shop that sports alcohol…
I was glad to find no burnt, abnormal off cuts, that you normally encounter with low grade suburban joints.
Wasn’t sure on the type of fish used, but it was noticeably fresh, understandably as they also sell market seafood.
A cool and modern new Fish and Chip shop on the block. Not the cheapest prices, nor the most expensive. Potato cakes, dim sims, fish and chips are all tasty. Only down fall was the potato cake being s little too oily. Otherwise very cool place to grab some takeaway from.
