Great cafe located in the leafy eastern suburbs. Comfortable seating, with a homely feel, and friendly staff.
Rumour Mill has a menu that takes traditional dishes and reinvents them brilliantly! The egg and bacon banh mi is the perfect example!! So unique and so delicious. And that savoury polenta porridge was so creamy and full of flavour
Vegans are also looked after with a large selection of vegan-friendly dishes.
Will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu.
Croydons brunch scene has been growing and Rumour Mill is another one that has impressed me probably more than any of the ones popping up near the inner CBD. Rumour Mill is a vegan friendly caf that serves a menu that caters for that customer base as well as a menu that is vegetarian friendly and also carnivore friendly.
We tried a variety of dishes which included the savoury polenta porridge , the Vietnamese breakfast banh mi , the nourish bowl and the special French toast. The savoury polenta porridge was by far one of the most unique dishes I have had during a brunch date. The polenta which was not grainy at all was creamy and full of flavours of mushroom and truffle, the poached egg really made the dish even more luxe.
The bahn mi which was a spectacle in itself was by far my favourite dish we tried, the roll was filled with bacon, poachies and Vietnamese pickles topped with siracha which added the kick this dish needed .
The green nourish bowl had a lot of healthy vegetables , we added some poached chicken with this dish which I felt this dish really needed. The sauted vegetables I found was a bit oily and sadly this was my least favourite dish.
For a sweet treat we ordered the French toast which had a bright green Cardamone ice cream , the pumpkin puree and the pecan combination really reminded me of Christmas . A very unique take on a brioche French toast
Thanks for having us !
I visited Rumour Mill over the weekend with friends. Located in a small shopping area in Croydon, it had plenty of tables outside for those enjoying the sunshine. Inside offers much more seating, both booths & tables in a brick & wood interior with some added greenery.
We ordered coffee, juices & a few dishes to share. We couldnt resist ordering the Savoury Polenta Porridge as it was quite unique & I hadnt seen anything like it. Well flavoured wild mushrooms, pine nuts, truffled pecorino & a poached egg on top of rich, creamy polenta. This dish was an absolute winner & we all loved it.
We also tried the Bacon & Egg Bahn Mi which was really tasty & had a nice kick of chilli. The masterstock glazed bacon was sticky & moorish, a fun spin on a Bahn Mi.
The Green Nourish Bowl was a nice fresh dish packed with (surprise surprise) green veggies. The fried kale was delicious but the overall flavour of the dish was a little bland, especially compared to the other big flavour dishes.
We finished with the Brioche French toast, served with cardamon ice cream, pumpkin custard, pecan brittle, black sesame & meringue. A pretty looking dish & a nice end to our meal. Thanks so much for having us.
I was invited to Rumour Mill this morning and while the menu has changed a bit from that which is listed here (and was somewhat tattered and coffee splattered when handed to me) it was suitably impressive. The listing was cleverly split into sections; big eats, clean eats, vegan eats etc. I was straight to the big eats for the organic vanilla pancake.
This was exceptionally tasty and well placed to become my favourite pancake ever but as I continued to eat through, the centre of the thick delight was not as perfectly cooked as the rest of it. This prevented it from being flawless but it was pretty bloody close. The baked rhubarb in there was ingenious!
I drank the mojito glow which appealed for the coconut water, mint, lime and watermelon factor. While I enjoyed the smoothie the taste profile definitely leaned towards the spinach, avocado and apple ingredients and I couldnt taste much else.
I also had the breakfast burrito as I love ordering this dish and quite frankly its not on enough menus. The avocado and sour cream were on top of the dish rather than inside but the ratios were still okay although it was a little difficult to eat with the cutlery provided. A yummy combination of scrambled eggs, spiced beans and cheese. Overall I continue to be impressed by the brunch offerings of Croydon. Its good to know locals dont have to travel far to experience a delicious breakfast
The vibe at the Rumour Mill was nice and relaxed.
Walking in, we weren’t sure whether to seat ourselves or wait for a staff member.
We waited to a staff member – which took a little longer than expected as 3 were tucked away behind the coffee machine having a chat and the other was busy preparing cakes etc. for other patrons.
Other than that – the food & beverage service was speedy! The food was AMAZING but the coffee could do with a little tweek, was very bitter.
Had to look for our own cutlery as none was bought to us
A little brushing up on the staff front would have easily bought the rating up.
Ill definitely go back for the food!
We visited Rumour Mill for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The tables fill quickly, and by the food and coffee that is served, it is not hard to see why. We ordered a Mocha Buzz Smoothie, a Bacon & Egg Banh Mi, Furikake Salmon Benedict, and the Brioche French Toast. The Bacon & Egg Banh Mi was fantastic. Presented in an open soft roll, with crunch and a bit of heat, we loved it. The lovely fresh flavours of the Furikake Salmon Benedict was really enjoyable. The Brioche French Toast was a pretty dish, with flavours to match, and OMG….that pumpkin custard!
Overall, our meals were outstanding, great coffee, and good service. Will definitely visit again.
We thank Rumour Mill for having us. We experienced Rumour Mill as guests, and all of our opinions are genuine and are based on our experience at the time of our visit.
