Very disappointing cakes! I bought the banana bread, carrot cake and lemon slice. Carrot cake was not moist and sweet; but flavourless and forgettable. Worse yet, the most crucial component- cream cheese icing, was replaced by a mere icing sugar-water icing tragedy!! The lemon slice had only the slightest taste of lemon in a mouthful, and that was due to the icing. The body of the slice tasted only like…basic biscuit/butter mash.
This bakery looked so promising. It is all smoke and mirrors people.
Since the new owners took over the pies and sausage rolls are terrible. If you like onion then buy a sausage roll which is full of chunks of onion. They have lost our patronage. So disappointed with them now. No taste in the meat pies either.

Poor customer service … Can’t speak English …
Nuts amongst the whitebread. Old Hadie’s is the kind of bakery that would have been fresh in the 1950s. In a town full of exotic newcomers, this is a White Australia kind of place. As in white flour. Lots of fresh-made loaves in that style, if thats YOUR style. It’s not mine.
I came by at 6:10 a.m. to get something sweet for the flat white (that word again) I was going to have when Villa Cafe opened at 6:30. Old Hadie’s had a few things that excited even a food trendie like me, though. One was an almond croissant — large but pretty average — that had been cut in half and filled with vanilla creme Anglaise. It was like a croissant and an eclair at the same time. And they had these triangle-shaped biscuits that had a layer of thick-cut nuts on top. BIG pieces, like macadamia nuts cut in half on there. It was like a gourmet Florentine on top of a Scotch biscuit.
Have I thrown in enough country names yet? As far as Scotland and being a country, though, they havent voted on the referendum when Im writing this. Old Hadie sounds Scottish, doesnt it?
