An excellent quiet place, for simple tasty south Indianfood. We have been regulars since it opened and the food quality has been consistently good. Love the Mysore masala dosa, plain dosa, and wada. We have also tried the Indo Chinese dishes and these are also pretty good. Chicken 65 is great. The decor and interiors are average, however, don’t let it fool you as the food is authentic, fresh and tasty. We have tried almost all the famous names for south Indianfood in western suburbs but keep coming back to Chutneys for the authentic tasting food. On weekends the place can be crowded and may take a bit of time than usual but it is worth the wait.

I’ve been here twice now. The dosas are value for money! Great portion size, flavoursome sambar and chutneys to complement the crispy yet soft dosas. Ive had the cheese uttapam and veg uttapam also, veg uttapam is better. The chilli Gobi is also great, you can tell it’s been freshly fried and not microwaved unlike some other places I’ve eaten it. This place is difficult to locate, it’s in front of the car wash, behind subway hence it’s always quiet but a great place to go to satisfy those south Indian cravings.
A small and neat eatery in a good location in Deer Park aptly describes Chutneys.Though the plan was to dine in an another popular Indian restaurant in that area the pictures of South Indian delicacies outside this place drew us in. To my surprise I didn’t find one of those items displayed outside in the menu. When asked about this to staff he had no clue. The start wasn’t great, however we settled down on a veg thali and a mysore masala dosa. Glad that we did.
The veg Thali for 11$ is a sureshot winner. It has lentils(dal), 2 veg sides, pepper soup(rasam), yoghurt, chutney and carrot halwa(sweet) along with rice and pappadom. The curries were fresh and were not the reheated ones.
The mysore masala dosa was well presented and tasted good.
Coming to the Chutneys , they are by far one of the best we have eaten with dosas in Melbourne.
As we were too full after the heavy meal we packed up the sweet delicacy which tasted amazing.
Good experience and would definitely love to try this place again.
We love authentic Indian and thanks to the first review, we decided to give this place a go. We were really glad we did, the flavours in the masla dosa and it’s dips were delicious – just the perfect balance.
When we came we weren’t sure what to choose, but the waiter was attentive, noticed our confusion and offered to explain then menu. If you don’t mind a little spicy kick to your food and flavourful food at a good price this is the place to go.
Authentic South Indian cuisine. The best dosas in Melbourne hands down. The chutneys and sambar are authentic. The spices are balanced and not overwhelming.
