Outdoor and indoor seating. Sichuan style cuisine. Ordered the prawn chicken dumplings. Food comes out relatively quick except for the dumplings. Waiter had to look at the menu to deciphere which meal we ordered. Dunplings are poorly made. Skin is doughy and thick with some parts uncooked; meat is bland. Other then that, food is average.
Average Chinese food along the quiet end of the Docklands waterfront. We came for lunch with a large group and preordered, food came out scattered and staff weren’t entirely sure of what each dish was. The pepper beef noodles was a large portion but the beef was luke warm and the dish was was average in flavour overall. The restaurant was freezing cold inside with no heating. The hot tea was a small plus.
The best southern Chinese food I ever try in Melbourne! We ordered salted duck, sweet and sour tried fish, stir fried beans and clay pot tofu! You must try the fish!! So fresh and yummy
My friend & i had a vege noodle soup, shredded pork on rice, steamed pork & prawn dumplings and shrimp on rice pops. Food was average (dumplings the worst, shredded pork the best among the 4 dishes), price was not bad, but customer service was below average. Especially charging $1 per plastic box for leftovers threw me off.
Staff hardly had no clue about customer service. Just bought food & dump on the table. Didn’t know their own menu when enquire about food. Dumpling tasted doughy, Sichuan sliced pork was lacking of authentic flavour & pork slices were so dry like it was made from frozen pork. Spring roll tasted like they added cinnamon which is so unusual in flavour & lacking of good ingredients, fried chicken wings were rubbish! Some what retro Asian urban style interior looks nice. Overall rating 2.2*
The Swine ventured along the water at Docklands for a feed today. Southern China Style got the nod as the Swine had a hankering for dumpings! Unfortunately the experience was not so great. A long wait for chow was a poor start but it was the quality and taste of the chicken and prawn dumplings which was the main let down. Lacked flavour and taste. Very ordinary. The Swine thinks the seafood noodles looked good but was told these were also quite mediocre. Place did look cool which brought on the curiousity. Bugger hey. With a double whammy of pig snorts this place is NOT Swine approved. Poor.
Came here for Chinese New Year dinner tonight (we chose this place because most Chinese restaurants in the CBD were fully booked) in a group of five. It wasn’t too busy – there were around three other huge tables of people also having their CNY dinner. It was too bad we weren’t able to sit outside, we asked if we could sit on one of the tables outside but they said it was reserved. Well FYI I made a booking too? I found their staff quite disorganized. We placed our orders and ordered a few beers as well as heaps of dishes but our beers didn’t even come until our first dish has been on the table for over five minutes. All they had to do was take them out of the fridge and open them with a can-opener! How hard is that? I know they were also busy taking care of other orders but still it was a simple task. As for the dishes, they were a bit hit and miss – some were nice but some were average. I would recommend the fermented beancurd water spinach, braised pork knuckle and Nanjing salted duck (the three pictures along with this review). The braised pork belly is the house specialty (in Chinese it’a called dong po rou, it is a single big slice of pork belly with a sweetish flavour and when it’s done right you will only taste the sweetness and softness of the skin but not the fatness). Prices here are reasonable and portion sizes are also quite big, making it a good choice for gatherings or even just a simple meal. The interior is not fancy but comfortable enough. I would prefer sitting outside by the promenade when the weather permits. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food in Docklands, it’s alright to give this place a go.
