The first time I came here was not bad, the coffee had a little burnt taste, but thats not uncommon however the coffee took about 20 minutes to get to me. The second time I came here was with my colleague and it was a horrible experience, we paid for a medium size coffee and got a small coffee. When my colleague went to go to the staff member to tell her that her order is wrong, the girl said that a small is $3.00 and the medium is $3.50 so we would need to pay the extra 50c to get the medium. My colleague was very sure that she paid $3.50 and asked for the receipt, however the girl explained that her register does not print receipts unless it was asked for at the time of transaction and was adamant that she only charged us $3.00. After the debate my friend decided to check her NetBank and it showed proof that we had in fact paid the $3.50 and showed it to the girl. Her response was to tell her staff to make another coffee and not apologise but only to say to us that its not a big deal, even though she had just accused us of being wrong. We received the second coffee and the whole situation took us 40 minutes to get the correct sized coffee so we rushed to go back to work, only to realise that the coffee order was missing skinny milk and the sugar that was ordered in the first place. When we came back to the cafe at lunch we explained this to the second lady at the counter and she just gave us the money back and told us that its not a big deal and we are overreacting.
I dont think we would ever come back here as we basically were told that we were wrong without any proof that we paid the incorrect amount, and we were asked to pay more for the mistake of the person at the register and not receive any apology throughout the whole process. The staff need to be trained better to accept their mistakes and learn not to put the blame on the customer without proof. We honestly didnt care that we got our money back but the way we were treated was not the correct way.

Someone at work was heating up pizza in the kitchen just before I went out for lunch which is probably what set me down the path towards The Italian Man where for a mere $9 you can get your own individual sized pizza in its mini take away box. Plenty of great flavours to choose from but I had a handling for pepperoni pizza. The pizza was cheesy and the salami nice and in parts quite crisp ( something I got for). The topping was overall quite oily and heavy and the base was more your deep pan old school style to your traditional flat Italian but was nice and spongy and tasty. Despite being old school I loved it anyway and plenty of others did today as well… must be the colder weather.
Run by the same people as the big Italiano as far as I can tell as staff seem to swap back forth between the two. Coffee is as good here as the other outlet, however marked slightly lower as queues can get quite long so order times are a problem. Otherwise no complaints with the price or coffee quality.
The Italian Man is one of the new cafes at Collins Square. Open for business on 21st March. I had my first coffee at 9:15am. The coffee (Soy Mocha) was tasty. Anyone who likes a smooth tasting coffee – go here! Accompanied with the coffee were two of their signature biscotti. Flourless, with dates, and coconut in the other, they were a nice low sugar treat. They also have muffins and other sugary cakes. For letting much I had the pasta and can ($11). Half Florentine, and half sundries tomato tortellini. The pasta was tasty, lots of flavour. The Italian Man is competing with two other Italian cafes here – Big Italiano, and Mr Collins. With their friendly service, and great food, they’re doing well already!!! Next time I’ll have one of their awesome looking Gourmet rolls.
