The quest for the best Donny/Donny East pie continues….

Today’s contender is a very local bakery of mine, and its a contender to be sure.

Clean bright Bakery with very friendly staff who knew a few customers by name. Lots of specialty goods such as hot cross buns etc up for grabs. The BIGGEST Cheesymite (they call them Ceddermite) scrolls you’ve seen.

Tandoori Chicken Pie – The colour doesnt say Tandoori to me and neither does he taste. Yup its an indian curry but not Tandoori. Do I care? Not really as it was a beautiful pie. Short, crunchy well cooked case giving structural integrity and texture. Lovely bright filling that wasnt thick or overpowering with a few veg in there. Great pie!!

Mushroom Pie – Another great pastry case and a rich ‘stew like’ filling, however I didnt get a real mushroom flavour. No discernible pieces of mushroom. A little bit of a let down after the Tandoori.

Bacon Pie – Again great pasty case. The filling was the more traditional ‘meat pie filling’ with bacon spread through the filling. Not over salted which was nice. A good all round pie.

Pies are $4.90 – $5.40, so you want a good pie if your paying the extra $1 or so. And I think on balance they deliver. A little room for improvement with the filling but a great little local bakery. A family pie or a ‘family pie deal’ would be a nice addition.

Great looking bread and other goodies. I’ll have to report back on the Cheddermite scroll, one of kids nabbed that for their kinder snack.
