Ordered the sizzling plate of beef with black bean with fried noodles. Really yummy, but towards the end it looked like it was sitting in a puddle of oil. Here we place our order via tablet, and no time was taken to explain this process, they just assumed we knew how to do it.The front of house was a little rude, she looked like she was a bit under the pump, and was not welcoming.Restaurant not full, several tables unoccupied. Other than that, pleasant experience food wise.. Would dine here again, for food, not service.
Their egg tarts, fried squid tentacles and baked rice (to name a few) are amazingggg. Great little Hong Kong style cafe with relaxing ambience and roomy seating. Staff is absolutely fantastic! Highly recommend.
A newish place in the heart of EasT Doncaster, the D House offers authentic Chinese food that will have you back in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai or any other major Chinese town. The menu is on iPads and the selection is quite vast, so there is something for everyone. Takeaway is available and that’s what I had. Rice noodle with beef and vegetable. Portion size was very generous. Taste quite bland but that’s how I remember it in the countries I mentioned it. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking out the front or at the nearby Woolworths carpark.
Got the wonton noodles and the soup was pretty nice on its own. But it was a bit light with the noodles. The noodles are pretty much stuck together in the bowl and doesn’t have much taste in the soup. The wontons are very flavoursome and nice. It had a tinge of pepper and you can see a little whole prawn in there.
Crowd used to be insane when it initially opened, has died down considerably since, especially after by New Age cafe opened. It’s now fine to get seats without bookings at dinnertime. This cafe’s point of differentiation has been its use of iPads for self ordering, something older folks might not be comfortable with, especially on custom orders like less salt, more chilli, adding certain ingredients etc. And obviously, using the iPad takes more time. Food has been decent since launch, and it looks like they’ve pushed a dinner set ($19.50) that includes a main dish, rice, fruit/dessert and a drink. My salt and pepper chicken rice was well done (could’ve used more garnish, it was very sparse) but the wife’s 滑蛋鸡肉炒河 was, for lack of a better description, strange. The rice noodles were stir fried and dark coloured, the chiffon egg was getting pretty close to becoming scrambled eggs. Not quite right (NQR).We might think twice about checking in again.
