The humble pie. The original Australian fast food. Joe’s Bakery used to have some of the best all rounder pies in Doncaster East many years ago, so I decided to give them a try.
Not bad. If they had more pies to choose from I would have given them another 0.5 stars, but even though it was 1pm there was only bacon, curry or mushroom left. I love a good curry pie so all was not lost.
The curry pie was pretty good. Good curry hit throughout the pie. The pastry was a little too blonde and needed cooking longer or a little less oil in the dough as it wasnt ‘short’ enough.
The bacon pie was a little too salty for my liking but there was heaps of bacon so I can’t complain about that. Again the pastry wasnt quite spot on.
So for a quick bite on the run it wasn’t bad but not up to its old standards. It wouldnt take much to make some tweaks and get some great quality pies. At least they aren’t charging over $5 a pie like some other places.
I’ll keep looking for Doncaster’s/Doncaster East’s Best Pies.
