I love this place!! CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN.
It’s soooooooooooo good here! And the pan fried dumpings are great too! I suggest having the fried chicken there rather than take away because it’s more crispy.
Drawn in by the 2 outstanding reviews and a hankering for dumplings we tried the Steamed Pork Dumplings, Pan Fried Chicken Prawn Dumplings, spring rolls and BBQ Buns.
Let me say from the outset that you really can’t argue with the prices, they are amazingly low. And the dumpling serves are generous like you get in the little dumpling houses in the CBD. So thats a 0.5 points right there.
The spring roll was crisp but lacked any real flavour. Even a hit of more Chinese 5 spice would have gone a long way.
The BBQ pork bun was tender and the dough reminded me of the Taiwanese breakfast dumplings I love to have with pork congee. The BBQ pork inside was nice.
The dumplings were pretty good. Handmade fillings and quite tasty. For me the pork was the better of the two, and very moist. I was a little disappointed with the Prawn and Chicken as the prawn was a separate small prawn not included into the mixture, so it got a little lost in the flavour profile. However there were good hints of fresh ginger in the mix was if there was more of, would have really made the dumpling. My only small complaint was that the pan fried dumplings had been fried (assumingly in the pan) in some oil which dried out some of the dumpling skins and made them a little chewy. Either less time in the frying oil or fry them in the pan first them steam them (which is how Ive always been shown how to do it). Interestingly they were my wife’s favourite of the two dumplings.
All in all they are fairly standard dumplings and there’s nothing to complain about, especially from a value for money perspective. I’d like to try some of their other dishes to really test the kitchen, so I will return.
Edit: oh and they had a menu for another shop in the block – Sakura Sushi. I’m hoping that means its a recommendation and not just cross promotion. I’ll try Sakura Sushi soon as well. Looks like a good menu
