Yet another new hot pot restaurant in Melbourne….
Pretty standard choices with a variety of soups available. The intense soup was as described….intense! Wiped out my taste buds, tears poured down my face and snot dripped out like a turned on faucet. But there’s a euphoric feeling that comes on after all of that, so it was well worth the pain.
Location isn’t the best and the counter guy seemed very disinterested. Other than that, it was a reasonable experience.

Melbournes weather has been recently cold and we decided to warm ourselves up with Hot Hot Pot!

The concept is simple – take a big metal bowl and choose the ingredients you want to get cooked with a choice of a spicy or non spicy broth! The bowl size you receive is dependent on how much ingredients you choose to eat! As the price is dependent on weight, I would recommend going for the more expensive choices such as seafood or meat.

We had opted to try both kinds (seafood and meat, and spicy and non spicy broth) to see what the differences were. The non spicy broth is pork based which gives it a rich and creamy taste whereas the spicy broth adds that extra kick! I preferred the non spicy broth as the ingredients had complemented that better than the spicy one! As the ingredients were quite fresh, it was quite a yummy meal!

Overall, we were satisfied and our tummies were fully filled!

The brains behind China Bar and Secret Kitchen, Joe Wee-Lim, has launched Hot Hot Pot (HHP) a new concept that has Melbournians simmering with excitement. Youll find lines of hungry diners holding their oversized bowls and tongs outside the flagship store at Westfield Doncaster, eagerly waiting to tuck into the Sichuan Malatang cuisine.

At HHP, you get to pick exactly what goes into your custom bowl – from the type of slow-cooked broth and spiciness, to over 70 gourmet ingredients and toppings. Youre spoilt for choice with a selection of seafood, meats, tofu and vegetables, as well as Asian delicacies such as lotus root.

Once youve selected more or less everything on the fresh food wall (because you have no self-control), choose a signature broth and Malatang spice level, then hand it over to the HHP crew to prepare your hot, hot pot of gold. Add a side dish, such as the cool cucumber and pickled jellyfish salad, and grab a house-made iced tea to wash it down. Do try the sour plum juice luscious.

Hot Hot Pot has set up next to Coles at Doncaster and offers giant ramen bowls with the added bonus of being able to select your own ingredients for the ultimate in customisation. I found this concept so fun. Pick out your favourite items from the meat, veggies, seafood selections and once you are happy you pay for the content by weight. Choose your broth type from pork broth or spicy and then let Hot Hot Pot cook your ramen bowl for you.

My selection cost $19 which included quite a lot of beef, Thai fish cakes, calamari, mussels, pippis, and fish fillets… plus a load of vegetables as well. You can even customise and mix up the noodles you want.

I chose to have the spicy broth but selected mild because I wasnt sure how insane insane might be. Turns out mild was well and truely spicy enough for me. Their spicy broth was a delicious and full of flavour broth and I followed the lead on others in the restaurant who slurped up their ramen much louder than me.

Would definitely revisit hot hot pot for a quick fun fresh and quick lunch in the future.

Thanks so much for inviting me in. I had lots of fun.
