Renovated with a modern new look after a change of owner, MCcafe is the cafe found at the entrance of the manningham library. They have friendly and open hospitality from the workers, as well as great coffee(must drink fast before it gets cold). They also serve pretty good asian fusion dishes and turkish rolls as well as other breakfast or lunch items. This cafe is great if your passing through the library or some coffee along with craving asian dishes, sandwiches, or sweet cakes.
A $9 chicken & corn soup. It’s very watery… i loved my pumpkin soup with the previous owner, it’s always smooth and rich, delicious when dipping it with bread.. I don’t mind canned chicken & corn soup, like what I did at home.. but this feels like microwaved powdered soup with lots of water. Anyways thanks for the two slides of breads.. will take it as my breakfast.. (I wished I can put up videos to show how watery it is..)
At the start, the barister/waiter greeted me with a kind smile at the cashier. I ordered a skinny latte. The coffee took 2 minutes to come and it tasted delicious.
Other than food, service was EXTREMELY BAD. The waiters never smiles at you, and when I said thank you, they just looked away as if nothing happened.
After I finished my coffee, I returned the empty cup and plate back to the waiter/barister, and she did not say I word. Instead, she was looking at her phone and picking her bag.
I am a food blogger and I go to heaps of cafes in Melbourne, this is DEFINITELY THE WORST cafe experience I have encountered in the past 3-4 years. Will never come back here ever again.
Warm welcome in a no frills cafe attached to Doncaster Library. Very friendly and relaxed service, felt like we were old friends returning, which was lovely. Kids enjoyed their simple breakfasts of bacon and egg toasted sandwich and for our youngest a poached egg. Happily for him, it’s regular toast, not sourdough. I think a few posher places would do with remembering to keep some regular sliced bread on hand for those who can’t handle the crust of a ‘gourmet’ loaf. Anyway, the poached egg was runny within as it should be. Apparently it’s never too early for the Hainanese Chicken, so that’s what I ordered. I felt as if I’d just been given a plate of ‘mum’s love’. Moist, delicate chicken off the bone, a dome of chicken rice, and a gingery, mild chilli sauce, it just had a reassuring taste of home-style cooking. The broth was nice enough. The kids loved their iced chocolates – and why wouldn’t you with a big mound of ice cream floating on top? Prices are budget friendly. The friendly man behind the counter was completely unflappable, even after our youngest accidentally knocked his water glass on the floor – and it exploded, sorry about that!
Note; if you’re putting salt and pepper on your food, be warned, the pepper comes out fast.
Friendly staff who remember what you like. Food and coffee are good. I particularly like thier Hainanese chicken rice. My 4 year old likes the chicken, avocado and cheese croissant with generous shredded roasted chicken filling. Love the relaxed vibe at the cafe too.
Quite good overall. Only thing is, the salt and pepper chicken with rice – the amount of rice given was pathetic. Only 2-3 spoonfuls? Was expecting a full bowl.
Giving it a tick. Great veggie breakfast, and good coffee too.
