My Key 3 Pointers
Why have horrible MCG food when this is on the way,
Fantastic for large groups and also has a function area,
Best rotisserie and if you are lucky enough to have Lamb, dont go without trying,
Once upon a time, I visited GG restaurant weekly. We had dinner or lunch before the football and two kids later and my last visit was 2 years ago. It was really nice to be back at my old stomping ground, it felt homely and the perfect way to start a great night.
This place is perfect for pre-drinks at the bar, a quick meal before your game or simply a perfect long date night. The food is always consistent, I have never had a bad meal. We do love getting the rotisserie for two which comes with a side of baked potatoes and salad. They also give you some bread and olive oil on the house.
Instead of throwing your money down the drain at the MCG I highly recommend eating here before you go. I much rather some great wine in a glass than plastic glass at the football. They also have some really good desserts on offer. I always select the doughnuts, they go down really well after all that yummy charcoal lamb.
I’ve been a few times for work functions and found that the quality of the food really depended on which package had been chosen.
They generally have starters and then for mains it could be a shared portion of lamb and sides or the standard fish vs steak and shared sides option. The starters are always delicious, especially their soups, but I found my steak ridiculously overcooked once. The lamb is ok, but I was pretty full by the time it came around since our amazing waiter kept bringing all the extra food over to us.
Order their juices, the best fresh apple juice I’ve ever had.
I’ve always had a fun experience here.
What a local gem. Came here on a dimmi discount but would not hesitate to come back now that I’m familiar with the place. Unassuming, yet an inviting & wonderful service, ambiance & food. Lamb shoulder rotisserie was sensational, & the best grain salad I’ve ever had.
Located next to Fitzroy garden and St Vincent Private Hospital, very convenient for hospital staff and patients.
Oyster – fresh and creamy happy with the quality 🙂
Watermelon with feta and pine nuts – perfect bite size, very refreshing and good balance of feta cheese and pine nuts 🙂
Fishy platter – perfect for seafood lovers apart from the scallop you can get 2-4 bites of everything else (softshell crab, smoked salmon sandwich, charred octopus and smoke eel croquette)
Passionfruit souffle with coconut sorbet – the souffle was too sweet and probably due to the excess amount of sugar used there was a very strong brunt caramel fragrant. The coconut sorbet reminds me of laksa soup… Not sure what other ingredients was used to make coconut sorbet but definitely not your ordinary coconut sorbet
Facing Fitzroy Garden, guests of GG enjoy a wonderful view. The dish here is quite modern and fancy. Love the lamb rib, which is wrapped with crunchy nuts. The fried gnocchi is also amazing. The crab beignets are yummy.
However, new favorite pizza is not my favorite. It has a strong flavor of chili and olive pickles, not well balanced.
Friendly service. Good food but nothing spectacular. Main means were really yummy, the duck and son really yum but entrees were disappointing at best
