Absolute meh. I’ve been here a couple of times after I friend insisted the place was the bomb. One time it was just OK, the other 2 times (no, I don’t like pain but we had a work meeting here once so that 3rd time I couldn’t avoid) it just did not deliver at all. All the meats were really dry like from the day before. There are so many american style BBQ alternatives nowadays, they just need to work on their consistency. I’m not going back.

With the booth couches draped in cowhide, Big Boy BBQ seems like a deli transported straight from Texas and plonked in the middle of Caulfield South. The restaurant is quite deceptive in its seating capacity, seems like a small operation but its quite cavernous.

The menu is quite exciting but the prices are surely on the dearer side.

Had the Zee Man sandwich – liked it, would have liked it even more had it been less salty – and the lightly spiced crunchy chips which were 100% spot on.

Overall, a nice meal but a tad bit expensive (in my opinion). Service was quite fast and my order was a takeaway.

Will I go back again? A tough question indeed.

    I would rate it 3/5.

The Big Boy BBQ at Caulfield is a 2 storey shop front with reasonable amount of seatings and American pub like decor. There are plenty of parking by the school area. Service is pretty standard like any other fast food restaurant. You have to order and pay at the counter, then they deliver to food to you.

My husband had cravings for ribs so here we are. We ordered a whole rack of Kansas City BBQ pork ribs to share. The ribs fish itself only comes with 3 slices of bread and some pickles, we have to order vegetable and salad on the side. The ribs serving is quite generous though.

I think the sauce taste quite nice, and if you want to experiment, they have bottles of other sauces available sauces (Smokey BBQ and Spicy BBQ) at the table. My husband enjoyed the meal but I personally think the ribs are too dry and difficult to get off the bone.

My husband is keen to come back some other time for the ribs again, I would probably order something else.

How could a place this awful gets 3.7/5 rating? Did they pay people to rate it high?
The rib was clearly pre-made and reheated, way way way to salty. The salty pickle was a nightmare too. You know often youd like some pickles to go was rib, but in this case, youd like to avoid it. In fact, avoid any food from this place. Definition of crapyness.

Quite possibly the worst ribs I’ve ever had. Dried. Ridiculously spicy and way overpriced.

Service is less than satisfactory. Don’t really appreciate being referred to as ‘mate’ by the female staff.

Loved this! Granted it was expensive but the food was well cooked and delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other offering on the menu.

If there was a 0 rating, I would give it to this joint. My wife and I decided to try it mainly because she loves American ribs. It was a disaster. Dirty, cheap and ugly, with a typical smell of old burnt fat…..we realised why they make you pay before they give you the food, which is real crap, obviously pre cooked, frozen and re-heated. Close to inedible. We left 90% of it in the plates. Do yourselves a favour, cross the road and go to dine at Grill Danube, werefor the same cost you can eat REALLY GOOD FOOD and have really good service.
