    3.5 to be precise

We first came by Dannys whilst on the way to St Kilda to drop off a good friend. Since neither of us were overly hungry, two of us had the Chicken Caesar Salad and my partner went for the Chicken Schnitzel Pita.

As unconventional as our orders may seem at a Middle Eastern restaurant, neither of us were disappointed!

The salad came with an amazing Caesar dressing, a skewer of juicy chicken shashlik, crunchy chunky croutons, bulky fresh vegetables, nice shavings of Parmesan cheese, slivers of salty anchovies and a perfectly poached egg! It was a perfect salad in every sense!

The Schnitzel Pita was just as impeccable: the tender and crispy schnitzel, in-house slaw and mashed avo proved a great combination!

The food left such a positive imprint on us then, that my partner and I came back again a few months later. Unfortunately, this time round it missed the mark…

Of course we had to order the Caesar Salad again! Whilst the dressing, shashlik and eggs were still as good, the salad wasnt dressed well (we had to ask for more dressing) and the slivers of Parmesan were dismal. It was also unpleasantly overwhelmed with croutons, given that the vegetables were also lacking the bulk that day. It seemed like the ratio was all over the place this time.

We also had the Mixed Grilled Platter which was mediocre – nothing really stood out. The kebabs were decent, but the lamb cutlets and steak were almost medium-well by the time it hit the table, ending up quite tough. The chicken wings were quite forgettable. The only enjoyable components were the shashliks and side serve of jus and shatta (Middle Eastern hot sauce). I must say though, that the platter was pretty good value for the amount of meat we got.

The saving grace of the day was actually the hummus and pita that we received as our starter. It was some pretty darn good hummus!

Service has been a mix: polite but unenthusiastic first time round, yet bubbly and cheery this time.
